"The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have the facts and solutions. All we have to do is wake up and change."
~ Greta Thunberg
"If we want to live in this World, we must take care of it. We cannot continue to ignore our environment's cries for help. The more we ignore the signs and effects that climate change has caused the less habitable this World will be for generations to come. We will listen to experts, and follow their guidelines. New regulations will be put in place to start cleaning up our mess and keep our earth clean and sustainable. Our lifestyles will be greatly affected and you may not like these changes, but if we do not take this step right now then we never will. We just freed this World from an oppressive rule, let's not destroy it by our carelessness."
Leon finishes up and we start our usual walk back home. We are officially past the halfway mark with our goals for rebuilding the World. Some days I can't believe we really made it, that we survived.
"Why do you think people refused to take steps to save the planet, environmental-wise?" Taika asks.
"Out of convenience, I think," Leon says.
I nod, "It's not something easy to change your whole lifestyle from the way you eat to the way you use transportation. It's easier for people to fall back on old habits because it's more convenient for them."
Leon adds, "An individual would think that he's just one person, what difference could he possibly make? And if all individuals thought that, then it cost them deeply. But if they thought that, I am just one individual but I am in a society full of individuals who I can rely on to take the same measures that I am taking to combat climate change, then we would be living in an entirely different world."
"We have to change the mindset, then." Taika finishes off.
We get back to our HeadQuarters, which has become more like home. Eventually, we would have to find our own places, but for now, this is the simplest way for all of us to work on things together. We grab a quick supper before heading to bed.
I start walking and find myself heading to the staircase that leads up to the rooftop. I climb them and find some blankets and pillows strewn about. I grab them and then lay down and gaze up at the stars.
It's really hard to see them in most places in the World, thanks to pollution. But here, it's not so difficult to spot the millions of tiny diamonds embellishing the night sky. I hope that one day, everyone will be able to see them, and maybe then, no one will take our beautiful planet for granted ever again.
