The Insurrection

Chapter One

The World is our earth, all the countries, peoples, and natural features. Everyone and everything is connected. There are no borders or lines that separate countries from each other on the map. There is no difference between the United States and Mexico or France and Spain. There is no difference between China and India or Egypt and Sudan. Anyone can go anywhere. No citizenship or laws or anything could stop you from entering any other country, so we call wherever we live, the World.

You might think that is the best thing that has ever happened. That we are one People united under the same laws and cultures. That it is a step forward towards building bridges and improving our humanity. Because that is what everyone thought in the beginning too. When the Universal Federation was established and implemented the new system a couple of hundred years ago, we all had hope that maybe we still have time to save our world and society from cruelty and destruction. But day by day that hope lessened. Day by day, that light and the little twinkle in everyone's eyes slowly diminished until there was nothing left but bitterness and hatred. Because there is no difference between the countries or places we come from, they are just that, places. It is the people. Some things should not be different for humans. Like kindness, generosity, and loyalty. These simple tenets of life. Nobody should be different in these areas, because everyone should have them. People can tell whether you are from the west or east side of the World, not because it is so obvious but because people are simply prejudiced. They will do anything to make someone other than themselves feel less than, and the corrupt UniFed will do anything to make sure that people remain separated that way.

But is that not why we took off the borders in the first place? So that everyone feels welcome and safe wherever they are. So that nobody gets differentiated from the other. Only that never happened. Instead of building bridges between humans, we burned them. We destroyed the already existing bridges and made sure that the ones in the process of getting built never got completed. And although most people are not okay with living this way, they are too afraid to do anything about it.

The UniFed now controls every aspect of human life from birth to death including your career, who you will marry, and how many kids you will have.

After assuming their power, the UniFed quickly realized that communication was going to be an issue, and to solve that they brought forward a small unnoticeable Chip that is placed into your ear at birth. It is straightforward, whenever someone spoke and it was not your language, the Chip would translate for you with the same voice as the one speaking. So, when Taika or Leon spoke, the Chip would translate the Finnish or German for me with their voices. It would not, however, do that if Alex was talking because Alex speaks my language; English. The Chip is also programmed with the owner's identification if you are an Identified Citizen, which is why whenever the full name is spoken, the Chip will tell you where they are from, the language they speak, their age, and occupation. This was also a good change; no country barrier and no language barrier. Nothing could have been better.

If only the founders of UniFed knew that all their hard work and sacrifices would eventually backfire. The founders were good people who only wanted the best for the World, but as we have learned throughout history, all good things come to an end just like all good rulings and leaders come to an end. The UniFed soon fell into the wrong hands and everything went south from there.
