Hanji's POV
Each passing day of the baby's due date, the doctors kept confirming that we might expect the baby during the middle of the expedition. Levi grew anxious because he's Levi. He still wants to postpone the expedition until after I've given birth. Consulting not only Erwin, but the other commanders. Well, Erwin was consulting the other commanders to prevent Levi or I being kicked out of the Survey Corps. Erwin chose to support the two of us because if one of us is not in the Survey Corps, he knows he had lost the two most important people who are helping hold the organization together.
I'm already at 35 weeks pregnant... and the expedition is next week. I'm allowed to walk around, but Levi's practically forbidding me to walk downstairs. He's hoping I would... give birth before he leaves. Erwin said the expedition is fixed. Nothing to change it due to my pregnancy. It doesn't change anything.
Every single day since this month started, Levi had brought food and water to me every day. Bathing me as well. Levi is much more of a mother than I'm supposed to be. With each passing day, I see the worry growing in his beautiful gray eyes. Seeing them twinkle with fear when I groaned while waddling from place to place on this floor.
Hell, I can't even walk downstairs to talk to the horses or even go down into my lab to brainstorm some new ideas with serums. Levi doesn't want to be the next victim of the animal serum, since he already has me to deal with, and he doesn't want me to test on anyone within his squad. And... thanks to Levi, his squad has certain people they don't want me testing on. Basically, it's on everyone within the Survey Corps.
I can't test this on myself because I'm already suffering the consequences of the first trial. And since the first one mutated my body, I can't cure it back to what it was used to be. The technology here... I'm afraid humanity might not be able to figure a way to reverse the damage I put onto myself.
I sigh heavily, feeling another kick from this baby inside. Soon enough, we'll see who it will be. Levi and I finally thought of names for the baby- depending on which gender it would be. We all have hopes.
"Are you feeling contractions?" Levi came into the room with a tray of warm potato soup and a cup of warm water. "Hanji, tell me, please..."
With a weary smile, I shook my head. "She's kicking."
"You're still going with the fact it's a girl?"
"Of course. I just... feel it inside of my bones, Levi. I feel that it is a girl. I can't explain why I know, but I know, Levi..."
Levi lays the tray on the nightstand, picking up a spoon and stirring the soup. "What happens if the baby isn't a girl? Then what?"
"My motherly instincts are wrong then. But it doesn't really matter in the end, right? Our child is our child... and weeks ago, you promised that you would be the only one who would give me as many kids I wanted. And no matter what... I will always love you... you and this baby inside of me..."
Levi kissed me softly, raising a spoonful of soup and feeding it to me. "Love you too, Hanji... now, eat."
Spoonful after spoonful, I kept eating the soup until Levi scraped the bowl clean. Sometimes, I hate how he treats me like a child. After the soup was eaten, Levi took a clean towel and wiped my mouth. There wasn't even anything there either.
Then, there was a strange kick in my gut. Wincing, it was strange. There were other ones earlier, but I chalked it up to feeling nothing. Just my worrying nature. But I guess Levi's reaction got me to worry just a little bit.
"Hanji, what's wrong with you?"
"The baby's just kicking."
"Kicking?"
I nodded. "Yeah... the baby's quite a strong- gah!" The next one pained me much more and grew shorter when I expected it. "The baby's really... really strong..." I winced again, feeling the pain. "Ahh... to the point it's hurting me... like... really-."
"Hanji..." Levi's eyes went wide as he got off the bed. I called out his name, but he opened the door and shouted loud and clear, even scary... "Get a doctor up here! Section Commander Hanji Zoe is giving birth!"
