Chapter 17: Father

Eren's POV

"Huh?! Why do we get put onto babysitting jobs?!" Oluo had shouted slightly when Nanaba from Miche's squad came by with the baby Raven. Moblit was by her side, looking exhausted as usual. 

Amidst the confusion, Petra seemed like the only one invested in the baby. Gunther and Eld let out a sigh, but they didn't say a word. Well, except for Eld. "Nanaba, Moblit, what's the meaning of this? I thought Raven would be put down into Squad Leader-."

"A-About that..." Moblit looked down with a slight regret. "The commander wanted all hands on deck with the squad leaders and all of Hanji's squad. Something about some titan finding it's way near the wall? It seems like the automatic belay activated on the side with titans on it, and carried one up."

"Aren't you supposed to be with her then?" Eld pointed out.

"Yes. But Squad Leader Hanji wanted me to ensure that the baby got into safe arms. Right after, I would go to the location and figure out the intelligence of this titan. Captain Levi would've been here as well, but there was poor timing. He got assigned to help some cadets with Keith Shadis."

"Huh, strange." Gunther put his chin on his hand, thinking softly. "The commander is quite intelligent himself, and if this was a serious thing, wouldn't he send the captain to the section commander's side? That's just my guess. And the poor timing? It's strange."

"I don't question anything anymore. Please, take her?"

Petra took Raven into her arms with a soft smile. "I got her, Moblit. Stay safe with that titan. You too, Nana-."

"Oh, I'm not going with them. For some reason, Miche told me to stay here with you guys. Something about... what did he say? A womanly touch. Though, he did give a snicker when he said that and told me that he just wanted me to help out with the baby. I don't know his reason. I mean, he has the captain's personal squad already watching over the baby. I don't think he has anything to worry about. Meanwhile, Gelgar is raiding the halls for alcohol."

Gunther scoffed softly, walking to Petra's side. "Better not let him around the section commander's daughter. Best to keep her innocent and not anywhere alcohol. The section commander would get angry at us for doing such a poor job. Maybe the captain even more."

"This is completely annoying! Why should we take care of that crazy-."

Everything tuned out when I thought of it. I'm no Armin, but I have my personal thoughts on the matter. The captain trusts us to take care of his daughter despite everyone not knowing it is his child. All they know that it's just the section commander's daughter. Just hearing from Oluo somewhat makes me sick. He's not just insulting the section commander, but her daughter too! And that means Captain Levi would-

Would I be a bad guy if I secretly reported it to him?

Oluo is a bit annoying at times... especially at this point...

"Oluo!" Eld finally snapped and bared his teeth to his comrade. "Respect the section commander. If we do not take care of her baby, she would lose her trust in us. Then, we become the disrespectful squad in the whole Survey Corps. Would you like that? Captain Levi would lose his faith in us- we're his squad. We need to show that we deserve to be in this squad."

Good.

In that moment, Raven started to cry. Probably from all the yelling. Petra had scrambled, trying to rock the little on in her sleep. "Ah- it's alright... I know, I know... big scary guys shouting at each other... boys will be boys..." Petra says softly.

Nanaba then gently caressed the infant's cheek, smiling a bit too. "Wow... looking at her this closely, she somewhat resembles someone I know..."

"Oh! I think I know!" Petra quickly seals her lips before speaking again. She then turned her attention towards me, beckoning me to come to her. "Eren, doesn't she look like your female friend? Uh... what was her name...? Mi... Melissa?"
