'Are they adopting you?' Adopting me. Is that what the decision was about? Adopting. What? I said what I knew I could. 'I have no idea.' And with that I sat on my bed holding my bunny tight to my chest, letting all my thoughts race through my head.

Now:
No one's POV:
After Eva left, Ms.Hanson showed the sisters to her office where they took a seat in front of her desk as she sat behind it. 'So, what is your decision?' Ms.Hanson asked. Elizabeth smiled 'We're going to adopt Eva!' To say she was surprised was an understatement, Ms.Hansen was completely and utterly confused. Why? Why would they want Eva? Of all the kids there. Eva? They wanted Eva? She collected herself before responding. 'Are you sure that's your final decision? I mean we have so many other children here.' Ms. Hanson was always happy to get rid of another child, and in this case she was overjoyed to be getting rid of Eva. Eva was quiet and did as told. Always. But her shyness and consistency of breaking rules, thanks to her housemates constantly blaming her, Ms.Hanson hated. She wanted her out of her orphanage, but she didn't want her to be happy or have people care about her. She wanted Eva to have an awful family that would hurt her like she did. Ms.Hanson was torn, but ultimately knew there was nothing she could do. If they wanted her, and had the proper requirements, which they did, then she had to give them the paperwork and let them take her. 'Yes, we are completely positive. She's the one for us. We knew it from the moment she walked in. Our mind is made.' Mary-Kate assured the keeper. 'Alright, give me just a moment to get the paperwork and have someone tell her to gather her belongings.' She explained as she stood up and walked to a filing cabinet on the left wall beside her desk. She rummaged through some files and grabbed all the paperwork and Eva's case file. She handed it to the women with a pen and told them to read through and sign and when they finished she would stamp it and the process would be finalized. They would be able to take home their girl. Their Eva. Ms.Hanson pressed a button calling one of the older kids to the room. 'I need Simon in my office right now.' And within a minute he was knocking at the door. She called him in. 'Have Eva gather all her belongings. She's been adopted.' His eyes widened. 'Yes, Ms.Hanson.' With that said he sprinted up the stairs into the room where all the kids were practically dying to know what the decision was. All eyes turned to him. 'Eva pack your stuff.'

Back to Eva's POV:
'Eva pack your stuff.' I look at him searching for any lack of seriousness. 'Why? What happened?' 'They adopted you.' I was in shock and so was everyone else. No one said a word until. 'Well come on, you can't keep your new family waiting!' I jumped up and grabbed my backpack stuffing it with all my toiletries, small items of clothing, and professor hops. Then I grabbed my duffel bag and filled it with all of my clothes. With my duffel bag and backpack packed I had everything I owned. Even though it wasn't much, it was all I had. All the other kids were still in shock, but they gave me hugs goodbye, which was strange because they never really paid attention to me unless they were messing with me, blaming something on me, or using me. With that done I walked down the stairs pulling my bag behind me. I'm just gonna get it over with now by saying I'm not very strong most of the time but sometimes I surprise myself. Anyways, I got to the bottom of the stairs which is right beside Ms.Hanson's office and I sit at the bottom waiting for the doors to open. I know to do this from watching other kids be adopted. A couple minutes pass and Ms.Hanson opens the doors to her office revealing the three smiling women and scary looking Ms.Hanson. 'Ah you're here. Did you get all of your stuff?' Mary-Kate kindly asks me. I nod in assurance and they walk out of the office to stand in the foyer. Ashley explains,'Great. Mary-Kate and I will bring everything to the car if you wanna say bye to Ms.Hanson here and Lizzie is gonna?' 'Go to the bathroom. Lizzie is gonna go to the bathroom.' Elizabeth finishes for her. 'Yes, it's right down the hall and to the left. You'll know when you get there.' Ms.Hanson directs with a fake smile on her face. The twins come over and Grab my two bags, one each and I thank them before they leave. Elizabeth walks down the hall and as soon as Ms.Hanson sees she's inside the bathroom she wipes the smile off her face and turns to me. 'I don't know how you did it, but those kind ladies wanted to adopt you.' My heart swells, but I don't react. 'You're a little brat and a troublemaker and I hope they realize before you can ruin their lives.' She whisper-yells. Ruin their lives? Am I gonna ruin their lives? 'Maybe they'll give you what you deserve.' I look at her confused. 'A good beating.' Oh. That. 'You know you've caused so much pain and burden in my life. I'm glad I'm done with you. Have fun in your new life, while it lasts.' What's that supposed to mean? Maybe I am a problem. 'I-I I'm sorry.' Is all I could think to say. I had tear-filled eyes but I knew how to hold them back. 'You should be s-' and then she's cut off. 'DON'T YOU DARE TALK TO HER THAT WAY!!' I hear I turn to see Elizabeth storming down the hallway and realize she must have heard our conversation. Ms.Hanson froze. She didn't know what to do. Elizabeth looked down at me. My eyes begging to leave this place. 'Come on, Eva. We're leaving. You won't have to worry about this mean lady ever again. We're going home.' Home? I've never had a home. And now I'm going home. She put her hand against my back and gently guided me out the front door. The twins were down the street already in the car. As soon as the door closes behind us, she knelt down in front of me. 'Are you ok?' She asked. 'Yes, thank you.' I responded shocking myself at my lack of hesitation. She smiled 'I'm sorry you had to deal with her but just know that's over now. I'm never gonna treat you like her and neither will Ashely or Mary-Kate. I care about you Eva. I hope you know that, sweetheart.' 'Eves.' I say quietly before looking at the ground. 'What?' She answers. I look up at her.'Eves, you can call me Eves. I only let people I trust call me nicknames. But Eva's fine too.' She smiles even more than before. 'I like Eves. It's cute. You can call me Lizzie. No one calls me Elizabeth unless I'm in trouble. Any other nicknames before we give you new ones?' 'Evie (pronounced Ev-e) my teacher used to call me that because she thought it was pretty.' I smile back. The first real smile in a long time. It feels nice. Comfortable. She stands back up and puts her hand on my opposite shoulder pulling me into her side. 'Well Evie, shall we go home before it gets dark out.' I smile up at her. 'That sounds nice.' We walk down the street to the car like that. When we get to the car she opens the door and helps me up into the back seat before sliding in next to me and closing the door after her. Ashley looks back as Mary-Kate is the one driving. 'You ready, Eva?' I think for a second before smiling and nodding back at her. 'Ok, then to home we go.' She says in a funny way and turns back to the front when Mary-Kate starts driving away. I look back out the window as we turn away saying goodbye to the place I was raised in for all eight years of my life. I thought it would be hard, but I guess leaving bad memories behind isn't as difficult as you would think. For now at least.

A/N: I had a lot of fun writing this chapter for some reason so I hope you had fun reading it. Getting to see Eva open up more just felt right after a sad conversation.
Love,
EJ
