Before you keep reading, I'm changing the story. In order for, the remainder of the story to align the way I want, Eva is no longer eleven, she's eight.

For once I wasn't worried about how I was gonna be treated or what was gonna happen to me. I was just able to be a kid watching a movie with their mother? parent? Aunt? Guardian? I don't know. I'm not sure yet. But it felt relaxing and most importantly safe. And that's how we spent the rest of our morning watching Finding Nemo cuddled up on the couch.

Now:
We finished the movie at around half past noon and let me just tell you Finding Nemo is such a good movie that I don't know how people could not like it. Lizzie was glad I enjoyed it so much but I think most of her excitement was because she got to watch it with me for my first time.  Now we were getting ready to leave for our afternoon out.

Lizzie had told me she was going to do her makeup but I asked her if I could watch before she left and so I went with her. I sat on the bathroom counter and we made small talk as she applied her makeup using the small vanity mirror that connects to the wall. I loved watching her do her makeup and just talking with her whilst she did it and I could easily see it becoming a habit.

She looked like she was done as she finished applying the black stuff to her eyelashes, she called it mascara I think, but she kept looking through the bag. I wasn't really bothered as I had been too focused on wondering why she applied makeup in the first place. I thought she was beautiful and it was just a waste of time. She didn't need it. I mean she looked great with or without it, but I guess I enjoyed getting to talk to her while she did it. 'Found it' is what caught my attention. I turned to looked at what exactly was found and saw her holding a small chapstick looking container. 'What is it?' I asked curious of why she wanted to find a simple lip balm so bad when I had seen at least five or six others in her drawer while she looked. 'It's a tinted lip balm. It makes your lips have a little bit more color but keeps them moisturized.' 'Oh, that's cool.' 'Yeah, it is. Would you like to try?' She asked me with a small smile on her face.

In all honesty, I did want to. I was intrigued by her statement, but I had never worn makeup or anything like it before. The closest I got, was the occasional use of chapstick but that was very(very) rare. I was just simply never allowed it. It was a "luxury" and I was not deserving of the "basics". Some of the older girls had makeup at the orphanage, although I was told I was ungrateful if I so much as asked to borrow some lip balm. 'I can't. I'm not allowed.' I didn't even have to explain why or who wouldn't allow me to use it, Lizzie already knew. She sighed realizing we were gonna have a similar conversation to many of our priors once again. 'Baby, where are we?' I was confused wasn't it obvious. 'Your home?' 'Our home, but who do you live with now? Who is in charge of you here, right now at least?' 'Um, you are.' 'Exactly and here, I decide what I think is appropriate for you to wear or put on your skin. You're not at the orphanage anymore and you never will be again. The rules that applied for you there aren't the same rules that apply here. So, because I wouldn't ask you if I wasn't okay with it. Would you like to try?' I processed everything she had said. I couldn't hold back a small smile from appearing on my face when she told me I would never go back. I nodded my head. 'Yes, please.' She smiled at me and gently lifted my chin while she applied the chapstick. I puckered my lips and rubbed them together when she instructed before she showed me myself in the mirror and smiled seeing my face light up. She did the same to herself before cleaning up a little and helping me onto the floor.

'Alright princess, go get your shoes on so we can leave.' I ran off and rushed getting my shoes on. I was overfilled with excitement for my afternoon out with Lizzie. Soon enough we were in the car driving towards the cafe Lizzie had told me about earlier. It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect. Not too hot. Not too cold. It was crazy to think I had seen so little of the city I had lived in my whole life.
