Raja stood in front of the mirror in the king's bedroom. Well, his bedroom now. The crown over his head was heavy and uncomfortable but it suited him well nonetheless. It was the visual proof of his sovereignty. Though a month had passed, it was still difficult for him to believe that he was the king of Chad.
He'd thought he would be happier after earning that title but...
There was sadness everywhere. The palace was not what it used to be. The servants were not as joyous anymore, they barely even talked. The rest of the kingdom was no different. Everyone was scared to end up dead like so many others.
As if on cue, Raja opened the curtains of his bedroom. Three carriers were getting out of the palace, holding the bodies of maids and guards that didn't want to serve under the reign of their new king. Raja didn't expect that so many of them would become rebellious. They didn't even want to give him a chance, and they certainly didn't want to understand his reasons. Why was it so wrong for him to take back his kingdom, the legacy left behind by his own father?
With a frown on his face, the young boy turned around and met the cold eyes of his wife. The queen was sitting on the bed, arms crossed over her chest. She looked sick, probably because she wasn't eating anymore and had lost a lot of weight.
"Do you want to have breakfast with me?" Raja asked, fixing his clothes.
"I hate you."
"...I asked the maids to prepare your favorite meals, it would be a shame to miss it."
"How do you sleep next to me every night? How do you trust me?"
"It's not good to starve yourself, my queen. The baby-"
"I hope the baby dies."
In just a few seconds, Raja was in front of the queen, pointing a menacing finger at her face:
"Don't you dare say that again!"
"Or what? You will kill me? Please, kill me, I am begging you!"
"Why can't you just be happy?! I know you love me, you are bearing my child. You are my queen, I can give you anything your heart desires. Why is it so hard for you to just accept me?"
"All I want is death and you are not giving it to me, you asshole. How could I ever love someone like you? You've murdered innocent people and hurt so many others, You've brought complete strangers into this kingdom and they are turning it into a living hell, you-"
"I own this fucking kingdom, I can do whatever I want with it!"
"Are you happy with what you've done so far?"
Raja's lips twitched. He couldn't say he was beaming with joy. Things didn't turn out exactly the way he'd wanted. He straightened his back and sighed:
"I will ask someone to bring you food. I will not allow you to starve yourself and if needed, I will shove the food down your throat myself."
