After eight hours of labor, Rocky didn't believe she would be able to make it. She went in and out of consciousness repeatedly. Every time, she was woken up again by the women who were desperately trying to deliver her child. At other times, it would be Raja slapping her cheek with a sad look on his face.
"You have to hold on, baby." He would say.
He tried to smile and remain hopeful but Rocky could tell he was worried. The blanket draped over her thighs hid all the blood she was losing but Raja could clearly see it from his sitting position.
When Rocky fainted for the zillionth time, he broke down in tears, hugging her arm against his chest.
"I am going to lose her." He cried. "I am going to lose the baby as well."
He continued to mumble as the older women woke Rocky again. The blacksmith's wife who looked just as desperate as Raja held the queen's jaw and forced her to look into her eyes:
"Stop fainting and push for God's sake!"
"Don't fucking scream at me!" Rocky replied in anger, managing to snatch her face out of the woman's grip.
"The umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby's neck. You have to push harder to get him out or else he will die."
Rocky hated everyone around her but not her child. Hearing that he might die made her heartache but it gave her enough strength to keep pushing despite the impression that she was being ripped in half. In the midst of it, she brought Raja's hand to her mouth and bit on it. Hard. Raja groaned in pain but didn't move away. He deserved that anyway.
The queen felt herself drowning again but just as her mind was about to shut down, she heard the cry of her child. The Euphoria of the moment had her sobbing. She wailed like she never did. Her eyes became blurry but the sounds of people around her were very present.
Raja stood up in disbelief and followed one of the women who took the child to a basin full of water.
"Let me see him." He asked.
The woman didn't budge, too busy bathing the baby. Raja impatiently waited behind her. The woman wrapped the child in a warm blanket and handed him to the excited father. Raja was overwhelmed by the weight of his baby. With careful acts, he moved the blanket away from his face to get a better look.
"...What?"
Rocky hardly straightened herself on the bed. She confusedly looked at all the women leaving the room with dirty sheets. She then directed her attention to Raja whose back was facing her.
"What's wrong?" She asked in fear, holding her chest.
"I don't understand," Raja whispered in his tired voice.
