"Grab them, we have someone to meet" said the darkling walking out of the room. "Who are we meeting?" you asked, "a pirate" he replied. "And why would we be meeting with a pirate" you said "we have business out on the sea" the darkling said lacing his fingers with yours. "Why would we have business on the sea?" you retorted "it's where we'll find what I want" he said.
"You want to go after Rusalye? We don't even know if he's real". The darkling came to a stop and turned to face you, he pulled you closer and looked into your eyes. "We found the stag, who's to say we can't find the sea whip?" he said softly.
You pulled away from the darkling and continued on to the carriage that the darkling had taken. You opened the carriage door to find someone sitting in there, he had sharp features, peasant clothes, and auburn hair. "Who are you?" you sneered, holding your knife up to him, "Sturmhond, the greatest privateer" he replied.
"Lower the knife y/n, he's the pirate" said the darkling coming up behind you, "privateer" he corrected. "He's going to help us find the sea whip?" you asked, sheathing your knife, "he's the best I could find, yes". "At least hes not ugly, quite charming" you chuckled climbing into the carriage. The darkling grabbed you by your waist, "I will not hesitate to make everyone know you're mine" he whispered into your ear.
Your face went red and you shoved him off of you, climbing into the carriage. "I assume you brought your crew with you" said the darkling "they're waiting at the docks" he replied. "Good". The darkling climbed into the carriage while the other grisha rode on horseback. Mal and Alina were placed in the wagon portion of the carriage that tailed right behind.
The ride to the docks wasn't the best as the darkling kept glaring at Sturmhond, making the space very uncomfortable. "I dont think we've been formally introduced" said Sturmhond hopping out of the carriage and turning to face you, "I'm y/n" you replied climbing out. "I already know" he thought to himself as a smile spread across his face.
"Genya!" you cheered as the girl wrapped her arms around you, "I haven't seen you since we went into the fold" . "it's been way too long, your lover has been hiding me from you" she chuckled, turning to the darkling. "Is that so?" you laughed, turning to face the darkling. "I wasn't hiding her" he groaned. You walked up to him and he pulled your body into his, his arms were wrapped around your waist as your eyes found each other.
"It was a surprise for you" he chuckled softly, "it could've been an earlier one" you replied. "Moi Soverenyi, they are waking" said Iavn, "I'll be there shortly" the darkling replied. "Come" he said, connecting your lips. He pulled away and laced your fingers. "Genya" said the darkling "tend to them, they look dead". Genya climbed into the wagon and began to trace her fingers along their faces, their bruises and the soot soon began to quickly disappear.
"Put them both back under, Ivan", Ivan raised his hands and soon Mal and Alinas eyes began to fully close and fall back into a sleep. "We're boarding now" said the darkling, "we're coming" you replied pulling Genya with you. You and Genya followed the darkling through the crowds of people and to the edge of the docks to find a massive ship, but it smelt of blood and decay.
"Do you like it?" asked the darkling "it's disgusting" you replied. The darkling walked up the makeshift staircase that led to the ship, he turned back around and held out his hand. A small smile formed on his face as you took his hand. Genya rolled her eyes and followed closely behind. "Why did you get a whaler?" you asked "it was all I could find".
The darkling came to a stop. He pulled you and Genya in front of him, "they're not very fond of grisha" he said, "you have to be careful". "Alina will be brought up soon, I want both of you to go to her where she's staying" the darkling instructed. You and Genya simply nodded and made your way down to the cabins of the ship.
The ship was still docked but it rocked as the waves collided with its side, "I never liked ships" you said. "You're a tidemaker, this is your element" replied Genya, "just cause I can summon water, doesn't mean I like being on the ocean" you chuckled.
You found Alinas cabin, it had the symbol of a sun engraved into the door. You pushed it open to find a girl in there, "oh- sorry I didn't think there would be anyone in here" said Genya "it's fine, the names Tamar" she said holding out her hand. Genya shook it and so did you.
Tamar squeezed past you two and headed out through the door. "She seems nice," you chuckled, sitting down on the bed. The door opened once more to reveal Ivan carrying Alina, "set her down here" said Genya, directing him to the bed. You pushed yourself up and helped to lay her down.
"The darkling says we're to be leaving soon" said Ivan "he asked me to come and fetch you".
You hugged Genya goodbye and followed Ivan out of the cabin. You made your way back through the hallway and back up the stairs that lead to the prow of the ship. Ivan walked through sturmhonds crew and up another staircase that led to the front of the ship, it overlooked the waters and had hardly any people there. "There you are" he said, taking your hands in his, "I wanted you up here with me, when he leave". Sturmhond, Tamar, and Tolya were standing at the other side of the mast.
"Is that really him?" asked Tamar "I'm certain" replied Sturmhond, running a hand through his red hair. "One question" said Tolya "go for it", "why is he with the darkling?" he asked. "I've been away for seven, things change. . .but it sickens me". "The darkling is no good for him, he's horrible". "Don't worry, you'll win him back" chuckled Tamar, throwing an arm around him.
The darkling had left to go and check in with Ivan about Alina, so you went over to Sturmhond and his gang. "Hey" you said leaning against the railing, "hi" he replied. "I must know, are you and the darkling together?" he asked, "well it's no secret, but yes we're together" you answered. "How did that happen?", "are you trying to get information out of me?" you chuckled, "of course not, just curiosity".
"Well it happened around when I was 10, my best friend, the prince of Ravka was sent away to school. He wrote to me for five years but then he stopped, since his stopped coming, I stopped too. I felt even more miserable after that, but the darkling made me feel happy, he filled the emptiness that consumed me for months."
"It seems you and this boy were very close," said Sturmhond. "We were the closest, it was me, him, and some other boy" you sighed. "I really do miss him. . sometimes I wonder what hes up to now, does he have life? Or kids?". '"I really hope he doesn't have kids". "Why don't you hope he has kids?" asked Sturmhond "that would mean he's married, and fell in love with some girl" you sighed.
"My feeling for him haven't changed at all, even if I was still a kid I knew that there was something more than friendship. He kissed me on the cheek the day he left, and he said that 'no matter how far apart we are, our hearts will guide us back to each other". "He seems charming," he said, throwing an arm around your shoulder. "Sounds like I'd definitely like him, two very handsome men" he chuckled.
