They threw themselves into the water, kicking hard as the lake tried to swallow them. You stood on top of the destroyed ship. You pushed forward with your hands, sending a wave that carried everyone to shore. The ship broke beneath you and you collapsed into the water.

"Where's y/n!" shouted Sturmhond. Tamar had her hands on the collapsed sailors chest, trying to restart his heart and drive the water from his lungs. Sturmhond waded in the water, he stood knee deep.

He stared out at the lake and what was left of the hummingbird. "Has anyone seen y/n?" asked Mal, "I saw someone up at the front of the ship before we hit land" said one of the sailors.

Alina got into a fight with one of the squallers and were bickering back and forth. "She's right," said Sturmhond, "I should have given her more warning, and I shouldn't have gone after the nest". "Now y/ns gone".

The broken down ship exploded in a wave of outburst water. Everyone looked up to see you struggling to grab onto a piece of wood to float yourself. "y/n!' shouted Sturmhond.

"Thank the saints," said Mal, sitting down on the floor. You flicked your fingers and sent yourself riding a wave of water to shore. "y/n" said Sturmhond, picking you up. "Are you okay?"he asked, pulling you into a hug. "I- I'm sorry" he sniffed, "I'm sorry I didn't listen".

Sturmhond pulled you back to shore and laid you down on the grass. He stood back up and ran a hand over his face. Alina and Mal froze. His chin had lost its pronounced point. His hair was no longer red but a dark gold.

And his muddy green eyes were now a clear, bright hazel. He looked completely different. Handsome. "You have a tailor," said Alina. Sturmhond winced.

"I am not a tailor" Tolya said angrily, "no, tolya, your gifts lie elsewhere" Strumhond said. "Mostly in the celebrated fields of killing and maiming". "Nikolai" you muttered, setting up from the grass. Instantly knelt down in front of you and pulled you into a hug.

"Why would you do this?" Alina asked, still trying to adapt to Sturmhonds new features. "It was essential that the Darkling not recognize me. He hadn't seen me since I was fourteen, but it wasn't something I wanted to chance".

"Who even are you?" asked Mal. "that's a complicated question", "actually, its pretty straightforward, something you seem thoroughly incapable of" Alina said.

"Oh I can do it" said Sturmhond, shaking the water from his boots. "I'm just not very good at it". "Sturmhond" said Mal, advancing on him. "You have exactly ten seconds to explain yourself, or Tolya's going to be making you a new face".

Tamar lept to her feet. "Someones coming". The sound of hoofbeats came from the surrounding forest of the lake. The snap and rustles of broken branches increased as men moved forward. "I knew we'd been spotted," Sturmhond groaned.

"We spent too much time in the fold. A wrecked ship and a screw that looks like a bunch of drowned possums. This is not what I had in mind".

The trees parted to reveal a group of men on horseback. Thirty soldiers, of the first army. Kings men, heavily armed. Alinas fingers twitched at the thought of being taken prisoner again. "Easy summoner" said Sturmhond, "let me handle this".

"Since you've handled everything else so well, Sturmhond?" Alina snapped. "It might be wise not to call me that for a while". "And why is that?" she bit out, "because it's not my name".

"In the name of the King of Ravka, throw down your arms". "Screw that king" you said, earning a chuckle from Nikolai. He raised his hands in a gesture of surrender.

"Our weapons are at the bottom of the lake. We are unarmed". "State your name and business here" commanded the young captain. "Let me finish him" you said, stepping closer to Nikolai. A grin was plastered on his face but he didnt respond.
