I wake up to you stroking my hair back. I must've fallen asleep from the long ride. I wipe the sleep from my eyes and I see that we're at your apartment complex. "I thought you were going to take me home?" I say quietly and with a hoarse voice. A yawn follows shortly after.
"I was but I got really tired. I can still take you home if you want." You say to me resting your hand on my cheek.
I place my hand on top of yours and I turn towards you, "No, it's okay. Are you okay with me spending another night?" I ask, meeting your gaze.
"Not even a question you have to ask." You smile at me and you take your hand back to unbuckle your seatbelt.
You get out of the car and I shortly follow. Once on your side, you reach your hand out and I grab it to hold. We walk side by side and I rest my head on your shoulder. We walk a short distance to the entrance of the apartment and then take the few steps it takes to your door. I wish your parking spot was a little further from the entrance so we'd have a few more seconds together, but I'll take what I can get.
You open the door to the apartment and we walk in together. We go straight to your bedroom because we can hear your roommate, to no surprise, sleeping already as it's 3 in the morning.
"You don't have work today do you?" You ask me, sitting down on the couch and patting the spot next to you.
I smile and sit down, leaning against you, "Luckily, no."
"Want to watch anything specific?" You ask me, turning the tv on.
"Mighty Ducks of course. You got me hooked." I say chuckling.
You chuckle back, put it on, and put your arm around me. A moment ago I could fall asleep at any second. Now, here with you, I'm awake. You surprise me in ways unimaginable.
"I'm gonna grab a Monster. Do you want anything?" You ask me, getting up from the couch.
"A Coke please?" I look at you and you nod.
As you walk to the fridge, all I can do is stare at you. Study how you walk. What sound your feet make when it hits the hardwood surface. Eventually, you get to the fridge and the white marble island is covering the view. The view of the future I want. Sure, a house, kids, and things like that would be nice, but I see a future in you; my future.
Or at least I saw it, in you.
You quickly walk back to the couch and drop down back to your spot. It caused me to lean in closer to you but you seemed to have planned that as you wrap your arm around me once again. I put my feet up onto the couch and I lay on you, head resting on your shoulder. We sit there and watch Mighty Ducks, but my attention isn't on the show. My attention is on how I am feeling in this moment; heart beating at a steady pace and thoughts running wild as if the gates opened for the animals at the zoo. It's like you released something in me. An animal I had forgotten about. An animal unknown to man. An animal I locked away for its own protection. That animal is my heart. The way I feel for you is uncharted territory. A place unexplored by me, such as the deepest depths of the ocean is by mankind.
I can feel myself starting to doze off. The weight of my eyelids is seemingly getting heavier. I lie down completely resting my head on your thigh. You start stroking my hair and it honestly doesn't help. I'm trying to fight the tiredness and here you are practically putting me to sleep. I feel so comfortable and relaxed with you. Feeling this way with another man is rare considering the shit I've been through. The way you calm my anxiety and my never-ending thoughts are unknown. The way you can make me trust you so easily when I don't usually do that with just anyone is amusing.
