The shocking truth

I grabbed the small Mac and shoved it in a purse that I found. It was black and purple and said "To Meg" on it, but the 'g' was crossed off.

I bet Summer was going to give it to me for a Death Day present- something you want to give them to remember you by, and take to wherever they went after death.

I sighed. Our lives had gotten so... Ruined. High school was the least of our problems. Frankly, high school would be lucky if it even got on the problems list.

Summer and I would have normal lives  after we got out of this mess, I silently promised myself. That was one promise I was willing to keep.

I enlarged my claws and opened the door cautiously.

And walked onto an army.

Military personnel were everywhere, holding guns targeted at me.

"RETRACT THE CLAWS!" one of them yelled. I did what I was told, but did it slowly. "Sorry," I apologized sheepishly. "I don't really know how to work my powers..." I started scanning everyone's brain. They were all scared out of their mind. No shapeshifter had ever been that powerful, apparently.

Every soldier was also fiercely determined to get me, since I was so powerful without being trained.

This was gonna complicate things.

I looked at all of them and fiercely thought: You want to let me go. You were wrong. I don't have any powers. You want to apologize and take me to my friend, Summer.

I had no idea if this would work.

One of them came up to me and said,"OH my gosh! I'm so sorry. You obviously don't have any powers. We are so sorry."

I breathed a sigh of relief.

"That's okay," I replied back. "I'm just glad I can take my friend and go." The man, who was apparently the general, nodded and led me through a maze. Turn right, turn left, straight, down, right, right, right, up, left, left, left, straight, down, I mentally made a list of where we went.

We came across a few people, but nothing happened. The General just hissed,"Code red. 32," and the people would nod and let us pass.

Finally we made it to a cell. Cell number 32.

The guard opened the door, and out stumbled a tired, but unharmed, Summer. "Hmm..." She mumbled, with her eyes closed.

"We're getting out of here," I calmly said.

That woke Summer up. She looked at me, her bright green eyes widening. "Really?" she said, her voice cracking.

"How long have you been here, Summer?" I asked, afraid of the answer.

Summer looked down, finding her feet to be the most interesting thing in the world.

I turned and asked the general,"How long?" with fury evident in my voice.

"Her whole life," the general grudgingly answered.
