KABANATA 23

Nabalot ng katahimikan ang buong lugar. It seemed like the battle was over. Marami ang sugatan.

Ilang oras pa ang lumipas at tanging ang Suprema lamang ang dumating. Tulala lamang siya. Duguan din ito at may natamong sugat sa iba’t ibang parte ng katawan.

I scanned the area, hoping to see Drach behind her, but I was disappointed.

Walang Drach na dumating.

“Where is Drach? Is he okay?” Kaagad kong tanong sa Suprema nang makalapit ito sa amin.

“I know that the word sorry is not enough to make your pain and anger go away. Don't worry, after this day, I will leave the empire. I just want to give something to you, Mystique. Trust me, I did everything to save him.” Mahabang paliwanag niya.

Tiningnan ko ang mga kasamahan namin, they all had their heads down, with a hint of sadness in their eyes.

Kaya naman kahit nag-aalinlangan ay tinanggap ko pa rin iyon. Nilunok ko iyon at walang ano ano’y bigla na lamang nagliwanag ang lugar. Nakakasulo at kay sakit niyon sa mata.

Unti unti akong nagmulat at laking gulat nang makita sa aking harapan si Kaired.

“Oh my God! Kaired!” Sa sobrang tuwa ko ay niyakap ko agad siya ng napaka higpit.

“Na-miss mo ba kaagad ako?” I heard him laugh, and his soft hand gently caressed the back of my hair.

“I missed you! I still can’t believe it! You’re standing in front of me like nothing happened. And you’re... alive? How the hell did that happen?”

“Thanks to my mom. She gave you a pill to see dead creatures, where you can touch and talk to them, but the truth is, it was just part of the illusion.”

Natigilan ako.

“So that means...” I slowly began to understand the purpose of the medicine I took.

Bahagya siyang gumilid at sa may hindi kalayuan ay natanawan ko ang mahal ko. Kaagad na nagliwanag ang mga mata ko at walang pag-aalinlangan na tinakbo ang pagitan naming dalawa.
