I just got in Nick's car and we had just parked in the parking lot of Gladen's, a very fancy restaurant.
I wore a short, sleeveless black dress. The waist had a black bow attached to it, and the bottom part was a lace skirt over a black skirt. I wore simple black high heels and some matching jewelry, and I curled my hair.
When we got out of the car and walked inside, the waiter led us to a table with a candle lit, some roses in a vase sat on the middle of the table, and two glasses were full with champagne.
I look at Nick, amazed. "You had this all planned out?" I ask him. He put his hand on the lower part of my back and whispered in my ear, "I want you to feel like a queen tonight."
His breath against my skin causes me to get goosebumps, and I try to hide them as best as I can.
Nick pulls my chair out for me, and I sit. He sits across from we and we sit there in silence for a couple of seconds, just staring at each other.
"You're so beautiful, Kathryn." Nick says, smiling at me.
"And you're so handsome, Nick." I tell him.
We begin to look at our menus. I look around, studying the restaurant. Very fancy, and looking at the prices of their food, this place is very expensive. Two tables away from our table, there is a candle lit with roses in a vase. Two glasses of champagne awaited two people. I looked around at the other tables and saw that they did not have a candle lit or champagne.
Who was that table reserved for, then? When will the two people be here?
I put the thought aside and looked back at my menu.
When the waiter came, I ordered a salad while Nick ordered a steak with potatoes, rice, and broccoli. The waiter took our orders and left, allowing the already-set table to be shown again. But the table wasn't empty this time. there was a male and a female sitting across from each other, just like Nick and I. The female had blonde hair and a pretty smile. She had a short, light pink dress on with matching high heels.
Renee Young.
When I looked over at the man, I saw Jon. Renee catches me looking, and she frantically waves to us.
She gets up and walks over to us. Jon follows. He puts an arm around her as Renee speaks. "Hi, Nick! Hello, Kathryn!"
Just great.
"Hey, Renee. How are you guys doing?" Nick asks the two.
"Oh we're just great, really. Jon wanted to take me here. He's so romantic!" Renee peeps. I roll my eyes without her looking.
She turns her attention to me. "Kathryn, good to see you! You look . . . nice. Like you're in mourning!" She says. I see Jon trying to hide his smile.
"I appreciate the, um, compliment. You look like bubblegum." I say with a smile on my face. Renee smiles back, obviously fake.
Nick notices how Renee and I are acting towards each other, and he immediately tries to get them away from our table. "Well, it's good to see you guys. Have fun!" He says.
"Yeah, we've got to get back to our . . . date." Renee says, looking at me. She turns around and walks back to her table.
"See you guys." Jon says, giving us a small wave. He goes over back to his and Renee's table. I sigh and look at Nick.
"I knew you wanted them to leave." Nick tells me.
"Yeah." I say, feeling a little dizzy. "I need to go to the bathroom." I tell him, getting up and walking away without an explanation. I hurry into the bathroom.
I stop in front of the sink and look at myself in the mirror, and sigh.
I'm ashamed of myself.
I couldn't handle the situation better? I couldn't have been the more mature one? Why couldn't I be the mature one when Renee said all those things?
I just had to say something right back at her instead of just keeping my mouth shut.
I mean, I will say what is on my mind sometimes, but just not all the time.
I clear all thoughts out of my head and wash my hands.
Just try and focus on your night, Kathryn. Your night. Not Jon's night. Not Renee's night. Your night.
I quickly get out of the bathroom, still a bit dizzy, and go back to my seat. Nick looks at me with concern. "Are you okay, Kathryn?" He asks me.
I look over at Renee's table. I catch her looking at me. She smiles and waves, then goes back to her time with Jon. I sigh.
"Yeah . . . I'm fine." I tell him, giving him a small smile.
He knows I'm lying.
"Come on, Kathryn. Let's get you in the car."
"No, Nick. I'm fine, really." I assure him. Another lie.
Nick read right through that lie.
He stands up and helps me up. He helps me all the way to the register, pays for what we had, and helps me all the way to the car.
He opens the door to the passenger door, and I get in. Nick closes the door. He gets in the driver's side.
"How about we find a different place to go to?" Nick asks.
"Let's just go to your hotel. Eat some popcorn and watch some television." I tell him.
"Oh. You're basic."
"Fancy is nice, but basic is better." I say. Nick chuckles and drives to the hotel.
For the whole car ride, there is absolute silence between Nick and I, but in my head, millions of thoughts swarmed inside. I kept thinking about what happened in the restaurant and how I could have handled it better. I could have been the more mature one! I could have been more pleasant! But I didn't handle it that way. I acted like a child.
I push the whole thought aside once we reach the hotel. Nick and I get out of the car and make our way to his room.
Once we get there, Nick allows me to change into one of his shirts.
"I don't care which shirt you pick. Just get comfortable." He tells me.
I look in his bag while he is changing his clothes in the bathroom. I pick out a Dolph Ziggler shirt.
I quickly take my dress off, along with the high heels and jewelry. I put Nick's shirt on and let out a sigh of relief.
Honestly, I don't like wearing dresses, but I'll wear them if I have to.
I fold my dress and put all my things in one spot on the dresser.
Nick comes out soon after and we sit on the bed.
"What do you want to watch?" He asks me, while looking through Netflix.
"Ghost Adventures?" I ask with a smile.
"I love that show." He says. He clicks on an episode and it begins to play.
Nick pulls me close to him, wrapping an arm around me. I lean my head on his shoulder.
"Kathryn?" Nick asks out of no where.
I look up at him. Our eyes meet and I can't look away, neither can Nick.
He slowly leans in until our lips connect.
