I've always been private about my past, but I know telling April would be a good thing since she keeps secrets.

I hesitate before I begin telling her what had happened to me when I was a teenager. When my mother's life was taken away from her. After that horrific night, all I had left was my sister.

I sit down on the bed and fold my hands in my lap. "My mother died when I was sixteen years old." I say quietly, looking down at the carpet.

April comes over and sits next to me with a hand on my back. "What happened?" She asks me.

"I got a text message from her, or so I thought it was her, telling me to meet her at an old barn house down the street from my house. And when I got there, my mom's boyfriend was there and he took me inside the barn. I saw my mom standing on a stool and a rope was tied around her neck. When I went to her, her boyfriend kicked the stool out from under her, so I couldn't save her." I say quietly.

I can see that April is shocked.

I continue.

"So then he came after me with a big knife and we wrestled around and he dropped his knife in the hay. I was able to grab it and I just-I just . . ." I begin to stutter and cry. The painful memory of the past would play over and over in my head.

"I just kept stabbing him and I-I couldn't stop." I tell her. I put my head in my hands while April tries to comfort me.

"Oh, honey." April says, rubbing my back. I look up and see that she also has a few tears falling from her eyes. I wrap my arms around her. "I just miss her so much." I say.

"It's gonna be okay. I'm so sorry, Kathryn." She responds.

And somehow, I believe her. I believe that it's going to be okay.

I wake up. My phone is vibrating on the soft surface that I am lying on, which had caused me to wake up.

I pick up my phone and look at the caller ID, and it happens to be Jon. I sigh and answer the call.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Kathryn." I hear his raspy voice speak.

"What did you call for?" I ask while rubbing my eyes.

"I was wondering if you would like to go somewhere with me?"

"And where would this somewhere be?"

"You're full of questions today, Kathryn." He says, laughing a bit. "I don't know. Get some breakfast?"

"Sure. I'll meet you down in the lobby in about an hour."

"Alright, see you soon."

"Bye." I say, hanging up the phone.

I meet Jon down in the lobby, as we discussed over the phone, and we head to Denny's to get some breakfast.

"So how are you this morning?" Jon asks me with a smile as we strap on our seat belts.

"Good, and you?" I ask him.

"Happy now that you're here." He responds.

We drove a five-minute drive to Denny's and go in.

"What would you guys like to drink?" The waiter asks us, constantly looking at me whenever he gets the chance. He'a good looking, I suppose. Probably in his very early twenties. Just a bit younger than me.

"Coffee for me." I tell him. Jon orders a water. I check to see his facial expression. I can tell if he's angry or happy about something just by his expressions.

Nah, he doesn't seem notice that the young man keeps looking at me.

Once the waiter leaves, I notice Jon staring at me. "Is there something wrong with me?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Nope. Just staring at your beautiful face." He smirks.

"Oh, haha. Funny." I say in a sarcastic tone.

"You don't think you're beautiful?"

"I never said that."

"Well why did you respond like that?"

"Drop the subject, Jon." I sigh, looking at my menu.

He hear him sigh as well.

Our waiter comes back with our drinks and proceeds to finish taking our order, still taking peeks at me every chance he gets. Before he leaves, our eyes meet. I smile at him and he blushes, looking away.

Awkward.

We begin eating our meal, having small talk here and then. Once we are done, the waiter takes our plates and gives us a check. He looks at me once again and we both hear Jon sigh. "You know, I'd really appreciate it if you stop staring at my girlfriend." Jon says, looking at the waiter.

I was confused on the "girlfriend" part. Since when did I become Jon's girlfriend?

"I wasn't-no, what?" The waiter replies. Jon stands up and faces the guy.

"You didn't think I could see you looking at her every chance you got?" He says, getting closer. He pushes the waiter just a little bit, but it's enough to make him bump into the table behind him.

I immediately get out of the booth and hold Jon back from doing anything else. "What the hell, Jon?!"

"Hey, man, don't push me like that!" The waiter says. Jon tries to go after him again, but I hold him back. "Jon!" I yell. He looks down at me, and for some reason, begins to calm down.

Other workers take the waiter away.

"Sit down." I tell Jon. He does as he is told. I sit back down as well.

"What the fuck was that for Jon?" I say.

"He kept staring at you." He responds, looking at the table.

"That gives you no right to push him." I say. "You've embarrassed me." I get up and walk to the front desk. A small lady with light brown hair and green eyes waits there. She has a big smile on her face. "Hello!" She says cheerfully.

"Hi. Look, I'm leaving. The man at that table is taking care of the check. The food was delicious." I say. I walk out of the diner.

And begin to walk back to the hotel.
