Chapter 19- Stone

I screamed.

I didn't know what happened after the meeting with Dad. I was on top of the school when my head cleared. I had horns and wings like Dad. What happened? Did the thing Dad did to me cause this?

All of it vanished. The voices stopped. I was in my Isle wear. I was... normal. What happened? Then it came back. It's there one second, the next it's not.

I flew down with ease into the courtyard. I looked around in confusion. Everyone was asleep.

I froze. I was stone. Then I wasn't. What was going on? Was it a hiding mechanism? I tested it out again. Stone, human. Stone, human. I then tested my appearance. Human, horns and wings. Human, horns and wings.

"This might actually be fun," I said, running and taking off using my wings.

"I can't get Ben," Mal said, putting her phone in her pocket.

"Or Dizzy or Doug," Evie added.

"Or Sophie, the signal's out," Carlos concluded.

I froze, landing on the grass as a stone statue. I tried to turn back, but I couldn't.

"Sophie?" Evie said softly, walking up to me.

Carlos walked up to me, sadness crossing his features. He kissed the top of my forehead, making a burst of energy run through my body.

"Guys. Hannah's turned to stone," Evie said, pointing at the statue.

"Okay, since we're here. Let's check the school," Uma said, starting toward the school.

"No," Mal stopped us, "Audrey went straight for the crown, so I think it's safe to assume that she went for Ben and his castle next? That's where we'll go," Mal decided.

"Says who?" Uma asked.

"Says me," Mal replied, getting in Uma's face.

"Says you, and that's supposed to mean something to me?" Uma asked sassily.

"Guys," Evie and I sighed.

Mal turned to us. "To the castle."

I turned back to my human self when they disappeared. I ran after them, jumping onto Carlos's back.

"Whoa!" Carlos said, almost throwing me off of him. His eyes widened in relief before he hugged me tightly. "Where were you? We thought you disappeared."

"I had some questions for Dad, and I went to visit Mom. Spitting image of her, apparently." I rolled my eyes. "Anyway, what happened? How did all of this happen in three hours?"

"Audrey has Maleficent's scepter and the queen's crown. She's putting everyone to sleep," Mal explained.

"Out of jealousy," I realized quietly. I turned to Carlos. "How are the new VKs?"

"They're settling in. They're at the house, so they should be fine," Carlos explained.

"Hey, Sophie, did you ever figure out what the whispering was? And if your father gave you any of his powers?" Mal questioned.

"Later."
