And behind her stood Valkon.
Wait, what? I looked up to see a befuddled Valkon as if he'd seen his own ghost. He looked horrified and suddenly it was like I could hear everyone's heartbeats and what they were thinking at that exact moment.
"What is going on? Is that Lord Valkon? Did he split into two just then? Should we bow? Should we approach? Which is our real Lord?"
"Don't worry. You learn to manage it," Aurora seemed to sense what was running through my mind. "I knew because of the look on your face. You've awakened. It always happens like this. But I'm siding with the Vamps on this one. What in the glory is going on?"
No one moved or said anything for a while. I thought the silence was weird. This was a battle-- meaning noise was meant to be heard. No matter how you looked at it, I was in the middle of something awkward and tense, but you could sense how dangerous this was even if you were a catepillar. I turned to Valkon's evil twin and the woman.
"God's favorite, eh? His favorite sure is incompetent. And to think that she'd be hurt by just a silver bullet. Oh, do I wonder," the evil woman sneered, "I wonder about the things that would hurt His favorite. Hurt His oh-so-beautfiful, do-no-wrong in his eyes, bestowed-the-greatest-honor of all, FAVORITE. Well, I only have one thing to say about that and I mean this earnestly from the bottom of my heart: I hate you and I hope you burn in hell with Dracula right next to you."
Valkon's twin smiled with a sinister wave emitting throughout. "I would say that I'm sorry to do this, but I'm not." The twin pulled out a gun and for the first time in my life, I panicked and felt a flash of red run through my soul.
"You won't," I declared in an overpowering tone. The authority I spoke with caused the man's gun to fall to the ground.
The woman scoffed as her cloak rumpled with laughter thereafter. "So weak. Pick it up now," she commanded. He shook the fear from his heart and retrieved the gun from the ground, cocked it and pointed it in my direction. He looked into Valkon's eyes and said, "This is payback. I'm not sorry, pal," the gun sounded and I watched as Aurora stood in front of the bullets.
From the look in his eyes to the slight step of his feet, I could tell the terror that came with the thought of riddling Aurora with bulletholes. Aurora grabbed the bullets one by one, but unfortunately one escaped her efforts and landed right in my gut. The bullet lit my insides on fire and I screamed out in pain. I could hear Elias turning into a wolf as his bones cracked and rearranged; he was ready to attack and so was everyone else on the battlefield. It appeared as though everyone was allies now. They all turned inward toward the enemy, but Selene looked unfazed while Aurora panicked and the evil twin was shocked. But Valkon couldn't believe it. He bent over my wound and placed his hands on my wound.
No immediate efforts were being made to save me and I figured it was because they couldn't. Where did the medic go? Are these my last moments?
Valkon looked at his hands covered with my blood. My vision wavered and I blinked furiously to withstand the urge to sleep. Valkon shot up, red in his eyes and yelling in anger. "Why the f*ck would you do that? Why, huh? Why, Fabian.."
Aurora looked at Valkon with an agape mouth. "Did you just say Fabian? What a coincidence.. I once knew a Fa.." She cut herslef off, stricken with fear by what she didn't want to be true, but by now, she knew that in our world, there were no such things as coincidences that were detrimental like this.
She looked into the evil twin's eyes before taking a gasp. "I don't believe it. I never will. It just can't be."
"I did it because you did it to me. You never told me how out of control I could spin. I killed the woman I loved because of you. And now you'll experience that same pain," Fabian declared.
Valkon looked at me with that same sadness and shook his head, eyes transforming into the heartfelt shamrock that I adored. "I won't lose you. I can't. I'd die for you, set the world afire for you, basically do anything you'd ask me to. I.. I.. I'm sorry."
Faster than the speed of light, Valkon was sinking his teeth into my neck causing everyone to gasp and growl and causing me to feel pain throughout my whole body.
"Nooooo!" the woman screamed. "Dammit. Retreat! Retreat now!"
"Wait!" Aurora shouted.
The portals disappeared one by one and Valkon was still there with his fangs in my neck. The pain was inexplicable and Selene smiled while Aurora gave me a once over of pity. I felt my wounds closing and found myself pulling Valkon closer and depper into my neck. The pain that once seered throughout me was gradually being replaced with something I never felt before, but I knew what it was. I blinked at Valkon as he retracted his canines from my neck. Instinctively, I reached for my neck, slowly sitting up.
"Here's the fun part. I stuck around for this, interesting one," Selene chuckled. Soon, the crowd of wolves howled and howled, some shifting from what seemed to be pain.. or heat. My face lit up.
"Valkon, what have you done?" I lashed.
"The only thing I knew would save you," He held his hands up with the bullets that were once inside of me.
"When did you do that?" I asked.
"When I was.. you know," he touched the side of his neck.
"Oh," I sighed, "You've done something terrible, Val."
Selene disappeared with a stunning smile on her face.
Elias shifted and commanded every unmated wolf to leave the area and so did Matt. I wondered why Matt and Elias were unaffected, even if they had more control because of their positions. Matt stood next to Evie who was staring at Aurora.
"Please tell me that you're not my Granny Phoe," Evie said in disbelief."please tell me that I'm not crazy. Tell me that I haven't seen a ghost."
Aurora laughed, "Why do you think I was buried in the Collateral Realm embbeded into a tree? I knew this day would come. I could feel it brewing and I knew that I'd have to return because a special someone asked me to. It's my duty. Always has been and always will be," She winked at me before laughing at Evie's confused face.
"And I see that you plan on continuing the family. Congratulations, Queen. I was never one for formalities and conformity, but I'm glad to see that someone of my blood ventured their way into that Royal Castle."
*Phoe is prounounced as Fee*
Evie said nothing and Matt snaked his arms around Evie and thats when I realized what Aurora meant. Through the commotion, Val and his minions escaped silently before I could scold him again while the wolves left , too. I sighed internally. This was a mess.
"I have to get you home," Elias said. "Come on." He shifted again and I rode his back into the bushes with the wind carrying the stench of blood and battle. It was sad how all the dead were left here like that.
"No need to worry about," Aurora spoke to me in my mind, "I have that covered. Go rest. You'll be in so much pain and very h*rny if I say so myself. Well, good night."
We approached elves that opened a portal for us and we stepped through the blinding light to find ourselves right in front of my home.. the home I longed for deep down.
I admired the house while i could and took in all details of it. Elias had the bricks repainted along with new gravel; the pavement had been cleaned and there was even a small garden in the yard now. It stood next to a towering apple tree.
"Welcome home," Elias said after we entered. The overwhelming scent of him snet my nostrils haywire. I took deep breaths and tried to slow down what was happening.
"Are you okay?" Ellie asked.
"No. I don't think so," I responded candidly, clutching my stomach. I blinked and I was there in front of Elias, pulling him to me and smashing my lips to his. And the next thing I know, everything went black.
