Elias sat by my side, holding my hand and whispering words of comfort. I could see the relief in his ocean blue eyes as he realized that I was going to be okay. And in that moment, I knew that no matter what challenges we faced, we would always find a way to overcome them together.

When the medicine finally drowned out the pain and symptoms, I sat up a little, causing Elias to give me a warning glare. "I've been down all day," I scowled.

"Stay down then."
"No. I have something I want to tell you," I muttered.

"Go ahead and tell me now. I don't need any more surprises," Elias sipped the last bit of his bitter black coffee.

I had the words but they were stuck in my throat. I stammered and eventually accepted defeat before calling for Aurora. "Aurora! Aurora come out! Evie, anybody!"

They whisked into sight, with smiles plastered across their faces. "Yes?" They said simultaneously.

"Tell him," I urged. Evie backed away, looking the other way. "Aurora," I pleaded.

"Fine," she relented. "She is awakening, Elias." Her eyes darted from me to Elias.

"Awakening?" Elias questioned.
"How do I explain it?" Aurora looked to Evie.

"So much for helping me out," I whined. I grabbed Ellie's hand. "Listen, when Valkon bit me, he did something. Implanted something inside me. And for whatever reason, it's fighting my wolf, breaking me down from the inside out."

His face fell and he instantly turned to Aurora. "You knew all along didn't you? That's why you said what you said that night."

"Ellie calm down. She didn't think it would go wrong," I tried to reason with him.

"A warning still would've been appreciated. She collapsed as soon as we stepped foot inside the house. I thought she was just tired," Ellie frustratedly ran his hands through his hair. He blew a breath, "So can you fix it?"

I cleared my throat, "She says it may get worse if she does."

"So what now? You stay here everyday taking medicine?" Ellie asked.
"There's an option," I trailed off.
"I'm not going to like it am I?" Elias sensed it.
"Nope. Not at all."

"Will it help you at all? In any way?"

"Yes, but," he interrupted me.
"Do it then. Can't get you back just to lose you again, Kennedi," his blues softened.
"Okay."

"It's settled then!" Aurora's voice filled the room. "I'll start the spell now."

"Wait what?" Evie grasped Aurora arm. "Right here? Now?"

"The longer we wait, the higher her fever will get. Medicine and herbs don't work forever, my dear granddaughter. Are you ready for this? If not, go take a breath."

Evie gave in. "No. I have an obligation just like you do. Let's do this."

"Elias you probably want to leave for this part," Aurora suggested.
"Why?"

"Because she'll be in excruciating pain and when the pain is gone, she'll be blinded with hunger. And we don't want you around for that," Aurora explained, her gaze filled with empathy.

"That would be torture for you, Ellie," I squeezed his hand as tight as I could. "I'll be back and better in no time."

He smiled widely, ruffling my tresses, "Like I'd ever leave you alone. I'm not going anywhere."

"It's not safe here," I tried my best to persuade him, "Please go, Ellie."

"I refuse," he smiled. "I'm going to sit right here," he stated firmly. "Do what you must."

"Well, are you ready to contact what's blocking your wolf?" Aurora's question caught me off guard. I had no choice. I have to be ready. I knew that my wolf was the one thing that belonged to me. It was mine. And I wanted it back. I hated that something was blocking it when I had finally just gotten her back.

"I'll have to be. Right?" I said, trying to muster up some courage. I couldn't back down now, not when I was so close to finding a solution.

Her ethereal beauty illuminated the room. "Don't blame me if this backfires," Aurora rolled her eyes, but I could see the determination in her gaze. She was willing to take a risk for my sake, and I couldn't be any more grateful.

As we began the process of contacting my wolf, I could feel the energy around us shifting. It was as if a door had been opened, and I could sense my wolf slowly stirring within me. It was a strange and exhilarating feeling, one that I had never experienced before.

But just as I was starting to feel hopeful, a surge of pain shot through my body, causing me to cry out in agony. I could hear Aurora and Evie shouting, trying to get my attention, but their voices sounded distant.

As the pain intensified, I could feel my consciousness slipping away. But before I could succumb to the darkness, I heard Aurora's voice, "Stay with me, you can do this. Fight through the pain."

And fight I did. I pushed through the pain, determined to overcome whatever was blocking my wolf, but I just couldn't breathe. It was like my lungs were collapsing, like my chest was caving in. "It hurts!" I shouted, the intensifying, throbbing pain shot from my neck to my head to my teeth. "Rory, It hurts!" I screamed.

"I know, I know," Aurora comforted me, her voice filled with caution. "Maybe we should stop," she suggested.

"No!" I refused. "I'm so close I can feel it!"

Elias scolded me, "Kennedi, we'll just try again tomorrow morning if it's causing you too much pain."

"No!" I roared. The searing pain went throughout my whole body. My body tensed, my back arched and I felt nothing for moments. Everything was pitch black.

That's when I heard my wolf crying, whimpering. In the dark, I focused my energy on the sound. I found my wolf, laid over, bleeding in nothing but darkness.

"What happened?" I wept, my hands stained with my wolf's blood. "What happened? Who did this? What did this?" I yelled, violent tears coming down my face.

I stifled my sniffles, "shh," I soothed my wolf as she whimpered. In the darkness, a swift wind circled around me.
