Geography was my first choice of dropped subjects in year 9. We could choose between Geography and History (or both for some nerds like my sister), and History was my first choice of university major. Not anymore, the joy was sucked out of it after my Dad died. He loved history. But even if life hadn't taken that unexpected turn, I would have given up on history anyway. Year 10 ruined it for me, not just because it became excruciatingly boring, but because I developed a deep seeded love for music and composing. That's my plan; I want to make music. I'm next to my friend Liam in History, so it's not all that bad. I find myself staring at the back of Naomi's head for the majority of the lesson, because it's more interesting than ancient medicine. Some of the remarks the handbag bitches make help to make it more interesting as well. As annoying as they can be and how horrible most of them are, I wish they were in all my lessons to lighten the mood.
Just like any other school anywhere, there are a few main groups:
The Handbag Bitches:
There is one group in every year at out school, and the name was given to us by the current year sevens in my form. It's a pretty accurate name really, and is more interesting than 'Populars'. It consists of many bottle blond girls who are constantly applying more makeup and generally look fake. The difference between them and 'high school movie popular girls' is the attention they get. All the girls understand that they are not nice, and not liked by many. Sure, the boys may fall for it, but I like to think that us girls are more mature than that. Who wants boys if nobody cares about you anyway? I definately don't. A friend is worth everything to me.
The Lads:
We are still working on a better name for these guys. Supposedly we could call them the Jocks, but I feel that sounds far too American. Most of them, however, are althletic. Just like the Bitches, they have their upsides and their downsides: Extremely funny when they choose to be, and can lighten the mood of many boring subjects. On the other hand, these guys can be very creepy in the way they talk to certain girls. 'Inappropriate' doesn't even begin to cut it. Yet I suppose not all of them are bad. Liam certainly isn't.
The Queens:
You may be wondering: 'hasn't she already covered these girls?'. Let me explain. The Handbag Bitches have their name for being bitches. The Queens have their name for being beautiful inside and out. These girls are the nice version of popular. They are friends with everyone due to how unwaveringly sweet they are. Carly is court centre in this group, along with Kai and Naomi. I'm extremely proud to say that in my school, these girls are the ones that every girl wants to be, and every guy wants to have. That's why I believe the people in my school are mature; these girls outshine the Handbag Bitches.
The Annoying:
This is primarily a boy category, with the odd girl mixed in. Before you think I'm a terrible person, you need to understand that in our school, brains are appreciated, and not laughed at. These people are very smart, which everyone finds admirable. However, the Queens are mostly very brainy themselves- there is a reason these categories are separate. Pure frustration felt whenever they speak. I'm sure there are at least a few of these people in every school- who put their hand up to every question, and even after answering, they continue to add their own knowledge on the subject. This is annoying in so many ways. I have known the 'head' (by that I mean the most well-known, they aren't an actual group) from the beginning of my school days. He can be nice, but has extreme anger management issues. Dominic has been the target of a lot of class teasing and bullying over the years, which is extremely upsetting. Yet he has learned how to deal with it... in completely the wrong way. Slamming books, throwing chairs and bursting out in tears is his way of making a classroom feel overwhelmingly awkward as everyone tries not to laugh. I'm ashamed of this.
The Average People:
This is really more than one category, but it applies the same way each time. These people can be anyone, to the nicest person, to the socially awkward, to the outcasts. I used to be in a group that fit under this category, but now I'm not really in a primary group. I like to drift, it means I can be friends with anyone. But my main group would be Kathy, Ellie, Emelia (Em) and Annie. By that I mean the people I sit with for lunch. My friends are scattered, and that's the way it should stay. I don't like labels.
