Her first person pov:

I dreamed of a black iron fence with spires that scraped the dark sky. The fence was long and went on for as long as I could see. It had thick bars that were laced together to keep something out. But it didn't stop the thorn vines.

For as strong and endless the fence seemed to be, the vines were eternally more so. Creeping and whispering their way through the bars, wrapping themselves around the iron, and breaking through to the other side.

Vines that couldn't be held back. Thorns that followed me wherever I went, broke through any barrier, and will never stop. And from the dark clouds overhead that threatened to break with rain, rang chimes of a peaceful song.

-

My head leans against the large window as I sit in the built-in seat with my legs in front of me. Outside the sun beats down cheerfully and people walk about with smiles as they enjoy the nice weather.

But just outside of the window a large tree was planted years ago, offering me shade from the heavy sun. I sit in the shade with my cheek against the glass. I sit and try not to think about my dream. I try not to look at my hand where a ring sits covering my tattoo.

A bell rings from a church nearby and though I resist bolting upright, I can feel every inch of me clench up.

Though different from the sound of chimes, the bells ring the same tune that I heard in my dream, the same kind, present, sound.

Quarter hour.

The bells cease their rings leaving off on a leading note that will continue at Half Past, and it leaves me trembling.

Just a dream. Just a coincidence. Just a dream.

"Hey! There you are." This time I do jump and my head snaches away from the window to twist around and look at him standing beside the window. "Why weren't you waiting in the main room?"

"Oh... I- there was a crowd of prospective students coming through so I thought I'd get out of the way." I answer, picking at the seam of my jeans underneath my joined legs. "Sorry, you couldn't find me."

"It's fine." He shrugs and takes a glance at the large window I sit in. "It didn't take that long to find you." When his eyes find mine again there's a sort of possessive affirmation in them. My chest starts to pound slightly as I smile but feel my stomach clench.

"Come on." He says and holds out his hand for me to take. Unclenching my hands from underneath my legs, I take his hand and let him help me to my feet and begin tugging me down the rows of books till we come out the other end at the library's entrance.

With our height differences, I have to bend my arm up quite a bit to keep our hands linked as we go and as we go down the stairs, his elbow bangs into my stomach slightly, only increasing the rocky feeling in my jut.

"Remind me what we're doing again?" he asks with a slight sigh.

"Today? We're going to meet up with Beth and-"

"No. I mean this summer." He cuts me off and I scroll through my mental calendar.

"Oh, well Beth is still working out the details for our graduation trip and that will probably be a few weeks sometime this summer. My parents will probably want to do something with us at some point too, and then..." I pause and take a breath before continuing, my nerves acting up again. "... I have some jobs lined up that I need to take a look at before the end of July."
