It was early morning when Brian, Virizion and Frankie woke up. They all had some waffles, then left for the gym.
Brian was trembling with excitement and said, "Yeah! Its time for the gym!" As they got to the museum/gym hybrid the two trainers and Virizion came to an abrubt halt. The gym was closed.
"Dang it! It doesn't open for another hour," Frankie said. "In the meantime... Brian! I challenge you to a battle!"
Brian was surprised at the sudden challenge. "Huh- What? But what about the gy-" Frankie didn't let Brian finish. He grabbed his wrist and ran to an open spot.
"OK, Brian. Get ready, because you're about to get crushed," Frankie said with excitement. "Go! Panpour!" He threw a pokéball and out came the blue-colored monkey.
Brian, now feeling the need for sleep tiredly yelled, "Um... OK? Go! Keldeo!" He threw the pokéball and out came the familiar orange-haired horse pokémon. "OK Keldeo, use Double Kick!" Keldeo ran up to the panpour, jumped around and shot out both its back legs. The panpour tried to move to the side, but Keldeo was to fast. One of its blue hoofs hit panpour straight in the face. The monkey pokémon tumbled backwards a bit, but then jumped back up.
Frankie instructed, "Panpour, use fury swipes!" The Panpour ran to Keldeo with its claws sticking out and slashed at it. Keldeo's hoofs shot out water at such a high strength that Keldeo flew up above Panpour and landed behind him.
Brian yelled toward Keldeo, "Great job! OK, now use Sacred Sword!" Keldeo's horn gave of a blinding light and it started to extend. It rushed toward Panpour at a blazing speed and slashed at him fiercely. The panpour flew back into one of the buildings and slightly cracked the wall. Panpour stopped moving.
Virizion's voice echoed through the boys' heads, "Panpour is unable to battle. Frankie, please send out your final pokémon."
"Panpour, good job. OK, c'mon out Lilipup!" Frankie threw his pokéball and out came a tiny puppy pokémon. "Use Tackle!" The tiny Lilipup ran over to Keldeo as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast, but jumped onto Keldeo's back. "Quick, Lilipup! Use Bite!" The Lilipup latched its teeth onto Keldeo's mane. Keldeo tried to shake him off, but in the process it smashed its horn on the wall. It cracked.
After Keldeo finally got Lilipup off its back, Brian gave it a command that should finish off the opponent. "Keldeo! Use Sacred Sword!" Keldeo's horn began to glow but the fizzled out. "Ah! What happened!?" Brian asked.
"It's Keldeo's horn. It cracked when it hit into the wall. Sacred Sword can't be used by Keldeo without his horn intact," Virizion told Brian.
"OK, then. Keldeo use Double Kick!" Keldeo lunged at Lilipup, but turned around in midair. Lilipup, unsure of what to do, got directly hit by the attack. It's super effective! The tiny puppy pokémon stopped moving.
"Lilipup is unable to battle," Virizion said, "Brian and Keldeo are the winners!" Brian ran over to Keldeo and hugged him.
"You did great Keldeo! Now, let's go back to the pokémon center and patch up that horn of yours," Brian told Keldeo. The group walked back to the pokémon center. By the time everyone's pokémon were healed, the gym had opened. Brian, Frankie, and Virizion strolled to the museum.
"The police still haven't found that fossil yet," Frankie said. "I wonder what was in that fossil that Team Plasma would steal it." The group went further into the museum and found a library in the back room.
"A library? I thought this was a gym," said Brian. As they walked in, Brian tried asking someone where the gym was, but he just handed Brian a book and pointed to another person. Brian walked over to the person he pointed to. She gave Brian another book and pointed to another trainer. I don't see where this is going, Brian thought. He walked up to that trainer. Another book and some more pointing. After at least 3 more trainers, Brian finally got to the last one, who gave Brian a book but just pointed to a bookshelf.
As he walked over to the bookshelf, he noticed some books were missing from the shelves. The books surrounding the empty spaces were books he had, so Brian put the books he was holding back into the shelves. As he placed the last one, the floor shook. He turned around. Behind Brian, where a bookshelf used to be, was a staircase leading down.
"Hey, would you look at that. A secret passageway," Frankie said. The team went down the stairs, which led to a battlefield. Standing in the middle was a blue haired, dark skinned, tall woman.
"Hello there, boys. Welcome to the Nacrene City Gym! I'm the gym leader, Lenora," She said. "So, which one of you is gonna battle me first?" Brian stepped up just before Frankie. "The rules are simple. Since there are two of you, we each use one pokémon. Whoever's pokémon knocks the opponent's pokémon out is the winner!"
Brian stood on one side of the battlefield, Lenora stood on the other, Virizion was the referee, and Frankie was spectating on the side. Brian sent out Keldeo, while Lenora sent out a herdier. Brian got the first move. "Keldeo! Use Sacred Sword!" Keldeo's horn started to shine in a blinding light, and it started to extend. Keldeo ran up to the Herdier, and the Herdier swiftly moved to the right. Keldeo missed the Herdier and almost ran into Lenora.
Lenora gave a command, "Herdier! Use Double Edge!" The opponent started to faintly glow red, and ran toward Keldeo. Keldeo shot water out of its hoofs and flew into the air. As a bonus, the strong water damaged the Herdier below Keldeo. It safely landed behind Herdier, then quickly used Sacred Sword on her. The clueless herdier was injured badly from the super effective blow.
Lenora, slightly worried, gave another command, "Use Double Edge again, Herdier!" This time, the attack it Keldeo head-on. Keldeo slid backwards, still standing fine. On the other hand, Lenora's pokémon took the recoil damage and was now having trouble standing. The Herdier collapsed, motionless.
"Herdier is unable to battle! Brian wins," Virizion happily announced. "Now, Frankie, please report to the battlefield. It is your turn to battle."
Brian, very happy with himself went off to the side of the battlefield to watch Frankie's battle. Frankie sent out his Panpour, who was filled with energy. Lenora sent out her pokémon; a Watchog. The battle started. Frankie got the first move. He instructed, "Panpour, use mega punch!" The panpour ran over to the Watchog and, with an odd amount of strength, punched it right in the stomach. The Watchog went flying; past Lenora and into the wall. The Watchog was suddenly motionless.
Lenora's jaw dropped. "Such power... How is that possible!? And that move... Can a panpour even learn that!? I'm... I'm beyond words right now," she said. Brian ran down to Frankie and high-fived him. Lenora smiled at the two of them. "I, Lenora, Gym Leader of Nacrene City," She held out both her hands; something in each one, "present you each with the Basic Badge! Congratulations!"
By the time the gym battles were over, the day was only halfway over. Brian looked over at Frankie and asked, "Where to next?"
Frankie smiled at him and answered, "the biggest city in Unova. The city with the tallest skyscrapers in the world! Castelia City!"
