Brian woke up at around 7:30 due to sunlight filtering through the window. He got up, got dressed and strolled into the lobby for breakfast. As he walked onto the balcony overlooking the entrance, he saw Frankie already sitting at a table, waiting for Brian.

"Oh, Brian! You're awake! C'mere and sit next to me. I've ordered us some waffles!" Brian walked down the staircase and sat next to Frankie.

"Today," Brain said, "I've decided that I'm going to challenge the gym with you, Frankie! I thought that challenging all of the gyms would help me train for fighting Team Plasma."

"That's a great idea! Who knows, maybe we could both challenge the Pokémon League together! ...That is, after you get your sister back," Frankie told Brian.

Soon, a huge stack of waffles arrived on the table, along with butter, syrup, and some jams. "Wow! This looks great! I can't wait to try this," Brian happily exclaimed. He and Frankie ate all of the waffles, and were ready to head out to Striaton City to challenge the gym.

Brian and Frankie arrived at route 2. "Wow, look at all these trainers," Brian said. "I have an idea! Let's split up and meet at the entrance of Straiton City! Whoever wins the most trainer battles is the winner!"

"All right! Let's do this! It's time to win," Frankie excitingly cheered. Then, the boys both took separate paths; Brian on the left, and Frankie on the right.

Okay... Brian thought. My first trainer battle! I'll use Keldeo, and then Azurill. Soon, Brian met his opponent. It was a young schoolboy.

The boy's face lit up. "Ooh! A trainer! Battle me battle me battle meee!" Then, the battle initiated. The schoolboy sent out a Lilipup, while Brian sent out Keldeo.

Brian had the first move. "Keldeo! Use Sacred Sword!" Keldeo's horn started to glow, and then the blinding light started to extend. Keldeo charged toward the tiny Lilipup, then slashed at it fiercely. The opponent went flying backwards, and did at least 5 rolls as it landed. It was super effective! The opponent wasn't moving. It fainted.

Brian was shocked. Wow! That was super powerful, even for a super effective attack! Just how strong are you, Keldeo?

After a lot more battling in route 2, the duo met up at the entrance to Striaton City. "OK, Brian. I won 4 battles," said Frankie, "How about you?"

Brian was beaming. "I won 7 battles, which means I win!" Frankie sighed, but congratulated Brian. They entered the city, and healed their teams at the pokémon center.

"OK, now it's time for the gym! It should be right... There," said Brian.

"That's the gym? It's only a pile of rubble," Frankie stated.

"Wait, what!? What happened to it!?" The boys ran over to the remains of the gym. There was a sign in front that said This gym is being renovated into a restaurant. A new gym is being built in Virbank city. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Brian was confused. "Virbank City? Where's that? I've never heard of that place," he said. He checked his town map.

"It's updating? I didn't know the maps did that," Brian said.

"I guess now this should show where that new town is," said Frankie. After a little while, the map had finished updating.

Brian looked even more confused now when he saw the map. "It's not just one more city; there's five more cities! Cool!"

"By the look of things, I guess our first gym battles will be in Nacrene City," Frankie said.

A flame of excitement started to burn inside Brian. "We're only one town away, so let's hurry up and get there before nightfall," he said.

As the two boys passed the semi-rebuilt pokémon daycare, an idea popped into Brian's head. "Hey Frankie, when we get to Nacrene city, do you want to meet my parents? They would probably want to know who I'm traveling with, just in case something happens."

"Sure thing! After that, we'll each check into a room at the pokémon center and stay for the night," said Frankie.

After a while of walking, the trainers reached Nacrene City. They stopped at the hospital, introduced Frankie to Brian's parents, then checked into rooms at the pokémon center.

Brian and Frankie were both very excited for tomorrow; when they both will have their first gym battle. After the excitement died down a bit, the boys both fell fast asleep, and didn't wake up until early morning, when they heard alarms and sirens coming from nearby. something had happened.
