Samantha's POV:
"Are you sure you're not coming into the water?" Payal asked again.
"Even if you ask me for the 100th time, my answer will be a flat yes!" I put on my beach hat and reclined on the chair.
"Whatever .." she shrugged and went to surfing.
I plugged in the earphones and started listening to some Indian folk songs. Damn, even a corpse can get up and dance to this song because it was peppy and fast and got a fantastic chorus part, that I started jiggling spontaneously.
Then the playlist switched onto some melodious song which lulled me to sleep, peacefully.
When I woke up, I was holding a hand close to my chest like a teddy. I hope I didn't drool on the hand. I wondered who's hand that is and moved slowly from my sleeping posture.
Shoot!
"Hey there! Sleepy head" he wiggled his eyebrows.
"What the HELL are you doing here?!" Saying, I got up.
"Well, you were the one who was holding my hand. How do I suppose to know what it means?" He questioned me back.
"Don't try to be clever you, mister!" I spat, picked up my hat and walked away.
"Hey, listen up!" He yanked my hand.
I shot him a death glare and moved my eyes to where he was gripping my hands. He removed his hand immediately and muttered a sorry.
"Listen, I am sorry. I am honestly sorry, ok? I didn't mean any of that —"
I huffed.
"Please.. just leave me alone and enough of your apologies. You got no reasons to apologize to me" I said.
"Can't we become friends, again?" He asked softly.
"We are NOT meant to be friends" I whispered and went back to my house.
••••
"You twerp! Why did you ditch me at the shore?!" I yelled at Payal, once I reached home.
"You were sleeping when we left to the surfing area and I was coming to get you now" she pouted.
"You dumbass! You could've woke me up!"
"Well, you were sleeping peacefully after so many days, so I thought not to disturb you —"
"Was anybody there with me?"
"Um.. nope. Was there?" She squinted her eyes.
"Um .. Er .. Yeah,.. No.. Nonono" I waved a dismissive hand at her.
"Okaaay" she dragged.
The door bell rang, interrupting our conversation.
"I'll get that!" I quickly walked out to answer the door.
When I opened the door, I was shell-shocked.
"Zhang?" I couldn't believe my eyes.
"Hey!" He raised one hand and greeted me.
I pulled him into a hug and I was glad that he hugged me back. I opened my mouth to ask him something.
"How did you get here?" Payal piped in.
"Well, I went your office to meet Sam, but she wasn't there. Stan informed me about your "girls weekend" and he gave me this address. Hope I didn't gatecrash your —"
"Oh c'mon! You're always welcomed to join us!" I pulled him into the house.
Things with Zhang wasn't awkward at all after what had happened. He was playing it so cool and I admired him for that. He was doing what I can't do with Ben and only I knew how hard it is to hold up before the person who turned you down, and tried to look happy like nothing had happened at all.
