Samantha's POV :
We were staring at each other until a voice interrupted us.
"Who's it Ben?" A blonde woman clad in purple cardigan and jeans appeared beside Benedict.
"I'm Samantha from Elegant Designs" I introduce myself taking my eyes off Benedict.
"Oh! Please come in" she invited me inside. Benedict was staring at the ground.
Is he shocked because I found him with his secret girlfriend?
"Would you like something to drink? Maybe a cup of tea or coffee? We have loads to discuss, I guess" this lady seems to be nice. I'm not judging her because she's his secret lover or something. I always observe people and their behaviour, that's kinda my nature.
"No, thanks. I'll have some water please."
"Sure" she made her way into the kitchen.
I looked at Benedict from the corner of my eyes. He was standing behind me with his hands in his blazer.
"Here, you go"
"Thanks" I smile politely and empty the glass. Just, when I returned her the glass, a kid, not less than 5 years old, came running and hugged her legs.
She's a single mother?! This is very entertaining!
I smiled at her kid, he smiled back at me and hid himself behind her. Aww, he looked super duper cute.
"Um,.. do you mind waiting here for a while? I want to leave him at the daycare," she requested.
Before my mind could analyse the situation, my stupid mouth replied, "Yeah, sure. I don't mind"
"Alright, then. Take a seat. I'll come back as soon as possible. If you'd informed me earlier about your arrival, I would've been prepared myself"
"Oh, didn't Pa...Didn't Ms. D'souza inform you?"
"No dear, but that's ok if you can wait" she smiled.
I nodded.
"Ben, you don't mind her company, do you?" She shot a loving look at him.
"Certainly not" he smiled at her.
She kissed him. Him, in the sense, Benedict. I looked away and once he kissed her back, she took the hands of the kid and left the house leaving me and Benedict, all alone.
I went to the living room and sat on the sofa. I wanted to avoid him, politely. So, I picked up a fashion magazine and pretended to read it. Trust me, this is the most awkward moment in my entire life - avoiding to have a conversation with an old friend. No, not even a friend. Just a person, with whom I was once fairly acquainted.
I was glad that he didn't attempt to make any conservations too, which was very unusual, because Benedict is one of those guys who can't shut their mouths. Always chatting about something or the other and trying to make friends. He's an extrovert unlike me. He took a seat across me and began fidgeting with his phone.
Yeah, I believe now. LOVE definitely changes a person. He barely looks at me now.
He behaved as if I wasn't sitting before him. Like, I just disappeared from the whole scene and that made me furious.
I glanced at my wrist watch, it had been only two minutes since she left. This whole situation, reminded me of the day when I first met Benedict at Adam's house. (dejavú?)
If a person is cold to me, I don't want to reflect the same attitude towards them. I am ME. So, what if he doesn't talk to me? I can still talk to him, right. Because, this whole acting-like-strangers thing was getting on my nerves.
I cleared my throat to get his attention. But his eyes remained fixed on his phone. Suddenly, I choked on my own saliva.
I know thats weird, but it happens to me when I'm having profound thoughts.
And that worked. Benedict panicked, and looked around. I began coughing more intensely. He ran to the kitchen and brought me a glass of water. I grabbed it from his hands and gulped it hurriedly, all the while Benedict was rubbing my back.
"Feeling better?" I realised that after two whole weeks he's talking to me.
I nodded. And then, he went to replace the glass, came back and took his usual spot. The silence was getting louder and unbearable! I got up and straightened my skirt.
"You're leaving?" He asked.
Again, I gave him a nod and said, "Ask your girlfriend to call me later"
Gosh, what's her name by the way? I opened the blue folder to find my client's name. When I looked up, Benedict was gawking at me.
"What?" I asked rather pissed.
"Did you just say girlfriend?"
"Yeaaah"
"What makes you think that she's my girl friend?"
I shrugged, "Well, last time when you came to see me, you said you had a date..."
"So, whoever you see me with after that is my girlfriend?" He interrupted.
"Well, if you had told me who's your girlfriend, probably I would've known. Since, you never did that I can only assume..."
"Why should I tell you that?" He snapped me.
Seriously? Are we having an argument now? UNBELIEVABLE!
"Right, of course, why would you tell me that? There's no need for that. You are an actor, a posh British actor. Why would you tell this ordinary Indian girl, who stupidly believed you to be her friend" my eyes were almost tearing up.
"What?"
If I see that stupid face any longer, I know I would cry. So, I grabbed my bag to leave. But, he tugged my arm. I glared at him but he didn't budge.
"Take your hands off me"my voice was barely audible.
"Is that what you think? That...I didn't consider you as a friend?"
I yelled, "Yes! You never looked at me as your friend. If you ever did, you would have told me what's happening in your life, like this girlfriend thing, but you never did. That says it all"
"I, never looked at you as my friend? Look, who's telling that?" He laughed at his own sarcasm.
"If you believed me as your friend. You would have told me that you're leaving London and I wouldn't have heard it from a third person..."
"Why is it so difficult for you? That, I'm leaving London?"
He loosened his grip from my arms and dropped it eventually and so his gaze. Again, the silence took over us.
