_____________

"Stop moving so much!"

You roll your eyes, giving a small laugh in amusement. "Alright, alright. My apologies. I'll try and stay more still."

The kid you're babysitting huffs. "Thank you."

"So polite."

Behind you, Lord Death's son is playing with your hair. You're pretty sure the kid is trying to braid it, but it's not going so well. He's restarted the thing at least five times, muttering to himself about how it isn't symmetrical. You merely let him do as he pleases. You'd rather have him playing with your hair than causing some sort of trouble.

You've been Death the Kid's designated babysitter for a while now. Lord Death has a job to do. As much as he loves his son, he can't be around him 24/7. He has an academy to run, students to protect. He can't always be there for his kid.

That's where you come in. You had gone to the DWMA when you were younger, near the top of your class. You're a meister, although you've never really found a weapon of your own. You are still incredibly adaptable to different weapons, which is what makes you think is what caught Lord Death's attention. After graduation, Lord Death had asked a rather big favor from you: could you help care for his son?

You had said yes, of course. It is a big responsibility, but you owe Lord Death for everything he's ever done for you. Besides, you don't mind the job. The kid is cute, and he's rather well-behaved. Throughout the years, the title of babysitter has slowly progressed into nanny - you're practically watching Kid fulltime now. Hell, you've even got a room in the estate.

In order for this to work, you've given up working as a meister - can't necessarily be one fulltime when you've got a kid to take care of (it makes you wonder how the Death Scythes manage). You've left your old life behind.

However, as you look in the mirror that Death the Kid holds up for you to check out your neatly braided hair, you smile to yourself. You wouldn't change a thing.

_____________

You've got a day off.

A day off is rare. You can't remember the last time you've had a day fully to yourself. Kid's always been right by your side, following you around like a puppy. The six-year-old is clingy, and his presence is very missed.

In all honesty, you're not quite sure what to do with yourself. You've hardly ever had the time to just relax. There's always been work to be do, mouths to feed, children to be put to bed. It's... weird. You decide you heavily dislike the silence.

So you take a trip to a bar instead.

It's loud inside the bar. The sound makes you flinch at first - Lord Death's estate never gets this loud. It's fairly quiet considering there's normally two people there at a time. Eventually, you get used to the chatter inside the building, and you slink into a seat at the bar.

N

ext to you sits a familiar face that you haven't seen in years. Your eyes go wide as you stare at the red-haired man.

"Spirit?"

Said man lifts his head up from where it had been resting at the bar. It takes a moment, but a look of recognition slowly passes over his face. "(y/n)?" He laughs a little in disbelief. "Long time, no see. How've you been?"
