| Chapter 5 • Stay

Early in the morning...

Vera woke up by the rays of the sun hitting her face, her eyes slowly opening, revealing those captivating ocean blue of hers. As she tries to sit down, she felt a pain at her upper back, she winced but managed to handle it. She successfully sat down and now she's looking at the unfamiliar place trying her hardest to remember about what happened last night and successfully did. Her face suddenly turned pale and she started to feel uneasy. She also noticed her clothes. They were changed into a plain oversized comfy shirts. She smelled that tshirt and there's no doubt about it, it's his. She smiled at the thought of him letting her wear his clothes.

She stayed there sitting and still looking around, she was about to get up from bed but perfect timing, Patrick entered the room. He's holding a big tray full of food. The tray was filled with pancakes, eggs, bacons, bread, soup and milk but then put it on the side as he saw Vera about to stand up. He walk towards her and talked while Upon seeing Patrick, Vera smiled. The memory of their kiss flashed in front of her and caused a red tint to appear at her cheeks

"Hey, you shouldn't be getting up from bed by yourself" he said ever so sweetly and placed Vera back to bed by assisting her and making her sit in a comfortable position.

"Good morning, where am I?" She asked massaging her head to soothe the sudden headache.

"Oh, you're here at my apartment. You were actually at the hospital earlier this morning but then I decided to take you home for you to have privacy and for you to rest completely. The hospital is too busy nowadays and the nurses and doctors have full pack schedules. So its best if you just stay here." He said while handing Vera a glass of water.

She sip a little amount of water "Thank you." She replied and gave back Patrick the glass of water.

"And uhm, your clothes. I asked the nurse to change it before we head back here. I hope you don't mind, I only have oversized shirts available in my office at the hospital. I left some there in case when a surgery got a little bit messy and gotta say, it came in handy today." He added and stand at the side of the table looking down at Vera.

"What happened? I remembered I blacked out last night after that hit but I didn't know what happened next after that. Did you get hurt? Are you okay? Do you have any injuries?" She responded and moved over to the other side of the bed and then pat the empty side of the bed for Patrick to climb in and sit beside her.

Before answering, Patrick did climbed in bed with the tray he was holding earlier. He put it infront of Vera and then fixed himself and sat beside her, maintaining 3 feet apart. Vera felt a little bit surprised about the gap between them but hid her expression

"I'm fine. I do have one small wound and I did get into a fight with those kids but the good thing is I didn't get hurt badly." He said and looked at Vera with sad eyes.

"Hmm, but where is that injury?" She asked and started to examine Patrick. She touched his face, tilting it side to side, trying to find where was the injury Patrick was telling. He smiled at Vera's actions and catches her hands with his and landed it at his wounded arm. Vera looked at Patrick's arms and she gasped as she saw how big the cut is.

"Patrick! This is not a small injury!" She said while touching the wound back and fort with gentleness and carefulness. "Did you cleaned this already?" She asked and looked at Patrick.

"I did, I was about to put some bandage to cover it up and prevent dusts and dirt from infecting it but when I checked the kit, I saw that there are no more bandages left and so.." Patrick said while pointing at his arms.

"Why didn't you buy from the nearby pharmacy?" Vera asked and turned her head to meet Patrick's gaze.

"That wasn't my priority for now and It did not bother me besides it doesn't hurt that much now and this is no compare to what has happened to you" he said and looked down, very disappointed of himself. There was silence between them for a few minutes but then Vera decided to break it by consoling the man with her.
