The man pulled me into a hug, holding me tightly into him. It was strange but sort of calming. In his arms I felt safe, like things were OK even though I knew they were far from it. I looked up at him to find his blue eyes staring back at me. “Come on I’ll take you back to mine get you cleaned up.” He smiled at me as we started walking out of the alley way. I smiled as I walked feeling safe. I smiled knowing it will be the first night in a long time that I won’t be on the streets.

The man which I found out his name was Jay, so Jay opened his door. He smiled as he stood out the way welcoming me in. “Sit in there the now, do you want a cup of tea or anything?” He offered smiling as he took his jacket off, I nodded in reply taking a seat on the sofa. His house wasn’t the biggest but it was nice and cosy. It was modern but with an old fashioned twist. The fireplace looked old but it was kept in good condition. I had never been in a house like it before. Before I was homeless I lived in a basic council home which wasn’t the best of places. Jay walked back into the room smiling and handing me a mug. I thanked him as he sat down next to me switching on the TV. “So, why were you so angry that I stopped you from going through with what you were about to do with that man?” He asked with a sympathetic look in his eyes. “I needed the money.” I gulped as I took a drink the warm liquid running down my throat. It was refreshing. I hadn’t had a proper warm drink in around 2years. “Haven’t you got a job?” He asked curiously. “I haven’t even got a home Jay.” I laughed at his stupidity. Most people knew I was homeless just by looking at me. “Oh, I’m sorry.” He looked at me and laughed. “You know you didn’t have to drink that that fast you can have another if you would like?” He asked taking the mug from me. “No, its fine I just needed a drink that’s all.” I smiled he nodded leaving the room.

I followed Jay upstairs to what I was guessing was his room. “Sorry about the mess.” He laughed picking up a few dirty T-shirts that were on the floor and throwing them into a basket behind the door. “Honestly I don’t mind mess I’m just glad I’m not sleeping on the ground. Anything is an improvement.” I laughed as he smiled back at me. He seemed full of joy all he did since I met him was smile. His smile just made me smile he had the ability just to make me happy. “Here you can sleep in this if you’d like?” He said handing me what I’m guessing was one of his T-shirts. “Thanks.” I smiled as I went into the bathroom to change. “You can have a shower if you’d like.” He said as he knocked on the bathroom door. I smiled knowing for once I would actually be clean.

I stepped out of my dirty clothes and into the hot running water. It had been a long time since I had a shower. I felt the filth running from me. The water at my feet was brown signalling that I really did need a wash. I ran my hands through my hair letting it fall gently on my shoulders. There was nothing better than a shower. I felt clean I felt fresh. In the morning when I left no one would know I hadn’t washed for months no one would know I was homeless. I had a chance in life because of Jay.

I got out the shower and pulled on his T-shirt it came down to my thighs. I wasn’t the tallest of girls but I wasn’t the shortest. I walked back into the bed room to find Jay lay on his bed in only just his boxers and a T-shirt. “You feel better after that?” He asked I smiled and nodded not saying much. He stood up and walked over to me. “Good! Now you can sleep here tonight if that’s alright? Get a good nights rest, you look like you need it.” He said pulling me into a hug… I knew the routine well. I looked up to again see his blue eyes shining back at me. I pulled his head closer to mine our lips finally meeting. I smiled into the kiss as I felt him kiss back. I pushed him back gently letting his body tip onto the bed. “Beth, no!” He said sternly. “Just get some sleep yeah?” He said turning the light off and slipping under the covers leaving me sat there, confused.
