I tossed and turned for what seemed like most of the night. I had slept but I couldn’t get comfortable. It may sound stupid but I preferred the cold hard ground. I seemed to be able to sleep. My body had become accustomed to staying up most nights or waking every few hours to make sure it was still safe. I turned to look at the clock which read “4am” It was still dark outside. I got up doing my best to be as quiet as I could. I went over to my bag of stuff and pulled out my jeans. Jay had washed them the day before so they were actually clean. I decided just to keep his T-shirt on for extra warmth. I guessed it was better for me to leave before he woke. I didn’t want the embarrassment of talking about what happened the night before. I was almost certain he wanted to sleep with me; no guy had ever turned me down before.

I smiled as I looked back at the house. I had left the light on in the hall as I left a note saying thank you. One guys act of kindness had gave me hope. I trailed along the streets off to find a place to sit for the day. I didn’t have far to walk till I reached the busy part of Town. It was the best place to sit during the day in a small alley way away from the crowds but in a dark place where most people wouldn’t notice you. Most homeless wanted to be noticed to try earning a few extra pennies but me I liked being away. I had nothing to be proud of and I didn’t want people staring at me or just walking past and making me feel like I don’t exist.

I sat for what seemed like hours. The dark sky had now turned light. The sky filled with white and grey puffy clouds. It had gone from being peaceful to an uproar. There was woman shouting at there children to hurry up, young boys just mucking around, men rushing late to there work. I sat in the comfort of the alley way watching the world go by without me.

I dozed off for a bit. I finally had a full nights sleep if you included my nap that I just had. As I woke up I felt that my head was lent against someone. “Afternoon.” He smiled looking down at me. “Jay?” I asked looking up at him. His curly hair bouncing on his head as the wind blew against us both. “What are you doing here?” I sighed as he leaned against the wall getting himself more comfortable with sitting on the hard concrete. “I wanted to see if you were okay. I didn’t know why you left. You were welcome to stay at mine as long as you wanted.” He smiled at me putting his arm around me trying to heat me up obviously seeing me shiver slightly. “I thought it would be awkward plus I feel more comfortable here.” I smiled looking up at him seeing as he was being so kind. “Well you’re coming back home with me.” He said sternly. I froze when he said so. “I’m staying right here Jay! How did you even find me?” I asked confused. “I found you the first time in a side street so I checked everywhere I could.” He said feeling hurt slightly at the fact I had refused to go back to his with him. “You know I’m not gonna give up, or stop. If you’re wanting to stay on the streets then I’m go missing with you. I’ll stay right here. Right by your side.” He announced like being homeless was something to be proud of. “You do that, Jay.” I said bluntly. I liked being alone. I had some sort of independence when I was on my own. I could look after myself and I was going to prove that to Jay. He saw me as some fragile girl I saw myself as a survivor. “You’ll have to teach me some survival skills.” He winked thinking the situation I had been in for years was some what funny. “You have no idea Jay, not A single idea.” I sighed getting up only for him to follow like a lost puppy.
