I sighed sitting down in a gap between buildings. The roof of the building above came over above my head making it a perfect shelter. “What are you doing?” Jay asked as I sat down. “Getting comfy for the night ahead.” I said feeling quite proud at the fact I found shelter so fast. “But we haven’t even had dinner?” He asked in confusing. “Jay, if you haven’t noticed I have no money how do you expect me to have dinner.” I sighed at his stupidity. He had followed me around the whole day asking questions. Why I did this, why I didn’t do that. “Yeah but I have money!” He grinned taking his wallet from his back pocket. “Yes you do, I don’t.” I said he frowned at me. “Come on let me treat you? Just this one time?” He pleaded I sighed nodding him helping me onto my feet. “There is a McDonalds just down the road.” He smiled letting me follow behind him.

We walked in and Jay told me to find a table which wasn’t hard as the place was empty. I sat down in the corner near the window so I could look out. It was warm inside considering how cold it was outside. Jay came back to the table holding a tray of food. “I hope you don’t mind I just got you a veggie burger… I’m a vegetarian you see.” He smiled at me. “Jay its food I honestly don’t care what it is.” I laughed as he handed me my food. Within seconds I had finished the lot. “Jheez Beth you could have savoured it.” He let out a chuckle as he bit into his burger. “I can’t help it.” I blushed even though I had no reason to. He was making me uncomfortable. “You can have some of mine if you’d like?” He asked offering me some fries. I shook my head taking a drink of my cola. Life was already different with Jay being part of it and I had only known him for a day.

“Can we not find a cleaner place to sit?” Jay said holding his nose from the strong smell of piss. “Well if you hadn’t made me go get food we would have a clean and dry place to sleep!” I snapped at him, he had no clue what it was like being homeless. “Yeah but it stinks of piss here if we sit here we will smell just as bad.” He complained standing in the middle of the alley way with a look of pure disgust on his face. “It was your choice to be here! Just go home!” I said bitterly to him glaring at him from where I was sat. “Not until you come back with me.” He said with pleading eyes. I shook my head. This was my life and he couldn’t accept mine I couldn’t accept his. “Please just let me help? Don’t be afraid of what might happen. There is so much to life if you’d just let me show you!” He said pleading even more. “Come on please? Just come back to mine?” He said putting out his hand for me to take. “One night. If I don’t like it I’m leaving!” I said as I took his hand and he pulled me to my feet.

“Home sweet home.” Jay smiled opening the door and letting me walk in. I walked into the living room and sat down. The whole house made me feel uncomfortable. It was what I always wanted but I wanted to earn it on my own not be handed it, especially when it wasn’t mine. “I know you will love here once you get used to it. I mean you’re used to sleeping under the stars it will be weird, I understand that.” He smiled at me like he knows what I was thinking. It was weird. He seemed to know me so well considering we had only just met it wasn’t normal.

I walked into his room. A place that already held bad memories. “You can sleep in the bed on your own if you want? I’ll sleep on the couch.” He smiled as he started changing the bed sheets. “Urm Jay?” I asked he turned to look at me. “Yeah?” He replied smiling at me. “Can I sleep on the floor? If you don’t mind?” I asked expecting him to think I’m a creep and to be fair I pretty much was. “Yeah I guess it will take a while for you to get used to home comforts. I will get the spare quilt.” He smiled at me placing a pillow on the floor for me.
