Mallory was sitting at the table. Everyone around her was deep in conversation.

"So what was Mallory like as a child?" Susan questioned her parents.

"She was very loud, she still can be." Peter answered.

"She also had an obsession with bugs." Indigo added. "She used to take them off the leaves they were on and put them in jars."

"Rodrick was like that." Frank chuckled. "He used to scream if Susan or I tried to kill a bug."

Mallory looked up from the food she was poking with her fork and stared at Rodrick. He was giving Frank a glare. She started laughing at him.

"That's cute." She told him. "I mean it's a little dorky but it's cute."

"Mal don't be so mean." Indigo requested. "You've only just met Rodrick."

"I need the toilet." She announced. "Where is it?"

"It's the first door on the right." Susan answered.

Mallory quickly jumped off from her seat and made her way to the bathroom. She locked the door and looked in the mirror. She splashed some water water on her face and washed her hands. After she left the toilet she decided to explore the house. The thing that took her interest was the set of stairs that led upwards. She climbed them to find herself in an attic. It had a creaking bed in there and was decorated with band posters and lights.

"Has anyone taught you privacy?" A voice questioned her.

"I'm just curious." She answered.

Rodrick flopped onto the bed. It squeaked a lot.

"So you were in a band in England." Rodrick started. "What were you called."

Peter had brought up Mallory's band at the dinner table.

"Desert Horses." She replied. "We were into Arctic Monkeys and wanted to be similar to them."

"That's super cool." Rodrick awed.

"It was, it was also very fun." Mallory sighed.

"We should go back downstairs." Rodrick suggested.

"Why were you up here?" She questioned him.

"Mum told me to help you find the bathroom but I saw you come up here." He answered.

"Right, let's go then." Mallory sighed.

Once they were back downstairs, everyone was having dessert. It was a triffle.

"We're going to the pool opening day tomorrow." Susan announced. "You should meet us there."

"Sure, it'll be lovely." Indigo answered.

Mallory internally groaned. She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She discretely pulled it out of her pocket and read what it said under the table. Her eyes went wide, her chest felt heavy, her heart started pounding. She couldn't breathe properly. She wanted to cry right there and then as she kept reading the message but she couldn't. She felt someone kick her leg. She looked up.

"Are you okay?" Rodrick mouthed at her.

She smiled and nodded her head, pretending like she wasn't having a panic attack.
