Chapter 15: Reminder

Ellie's PoV

I woke up with a pounding headache in my head. Last night I had a really strange dream.

It was more vivid than my current life though. Ash had cofessed to me.

Strange.

I glanced around. It was still pretty dark outside though I could sense the dawn closing in. Claire was still asleep while Zach was nowhere.

I heard a door swinging open. My heart skipped a beat.

Not again.

Relief washed over me as Zach entered.

"Hey babe you're awake" He spoke cheerfully.

"Isn't it obvious?" I replied bluntly.

"Can you wake Claire?" Ignoring my tone he changed the topic.

"Sure" I walked over to Claire's bed and shook her with all my strength.

"Let me sleep" she murmured without opening her eyes.

I left her and walked over to the kitchen to get some water to spray on her.

Shit.

My breath caught in my throat. The same lantern hung in the air.

No. I can't be scared anymore. I've had enough of this shit.

"Get lost I'm not fucking scared of you!" I yelled at the lantern.

Nothing happened. Feeling stupid, I walked to a small pot and picked a small cup filling it with water.

What was happening to me was a mystery. I have never been so brave.

I turned back. The lantern was gone but the place was illuminated by an unseen source. I was yet to reach the door when I heard the sound of something shattering and in the blink of an eye, water showered over me.

Zach came running towards me.

"What happened?"he yelled with his eyes widening.

I walked past ignoring him, still holding the cup of water.

I stood beside Claire, lifted the cup and spilled it over my own head.

I was so fucked up. Why was I even angry?

"What the hell?" Zach scolded.

"I was feeling hot so spilled all the water over me and smashed the pot, any problem?" I rolled my eyes.

His mouth fell open.

"What's the matter with you? Have you lost your mind?" He yelled at me.

That woke Claire up.

"Will you guys stop bickering somebody's tryna sleep here" she snapped at us.

Zach shook his head and spoke to her "do you wanna go home?"

"Oh shit I had totally forgot" she said slapping her forehead.

After what felt like 30 minutes they were ready to leave. Lara had joined us 10 minutes ago and now we were standing outside her cottage.

"I'll miss you" I pulled Claire into an embrace.

"I'll miss you too" She said in a sad tone.

"Bye and thanks for everything" Claire said shaking Lara's hand.

"It's been a pleasure" Lara replied.

I rolled my eyes at the formality.

"I'm still angry at you. Bye" Zach said squeezing me.

It should have been natural and comforting but when he kissed my forehead I wanted to throw up right on his face.

With that they walked into the woods. 

"Let's go have something to eat" Lara smiled taking my arm.

She walked to the kitchem leaving me alone.

I walked to the window where I had seen Ash standing last night in my so-close-to-reality dream . I stood for a while watching the beautiful hues that accompanied dawn.

Lara called from the kitchen "breakfast's ready will you join me"

"Coming" I spoke hopefully loud enough to reach her ears.

Turning around I saw a small note beside the pillow I was perched on last night.

The handwriting was foreign.

"I wanted to show you more but you fell asleep.
Remember I love you.
Yours Ash."
