Chapter 17: Chained

Ash's PoV

"Now tell me what the hell were you doing with that mortal" king glared at me.

"Protecting her" I replied coolly.

"And why the hell were you protecting her?" This time he slammed his fist against the desk.

"Because she's in trouble" I enjoyed teasing him.

"And why's that of your concern" he spat.

I just rolled my eyes.

"If you weren't my only son I would've exiled you now" he said.

"You should" I said the first thing that came in my mind.

I know that was the most stupid thing to say when my father aka the king was pissed off but I couldn't help it. I love Ellie and I'd do anything for her.

"Are you insane" he said.

"I love her so I guess yeah" I smirked.

He pinched the bridge of his nose then spoke softly.

"What's wrong with you"

"I don't know" I replied.

"Fine. When she dies don't come to me crying. You're dismissed now."

What?

Ok now what was that? I was expecting a burst out or a bad persecution. Well, I think he finally decided to be a better father.

Without saying any other word I left his study. After leaving Ellie I started searching for the ghost that had been haunting Ellie.

I had cornered some ghosts and found out that it wasn't a ghost but a spirit who was after Ellie. Spirits were hard to get rid of, unlike ghosts, who burst into flames in seconds after touching a demon.

Anyhow, my father had me called before I could find that damned spirit.

Ellie's PoV

We walked till dusk. I was scared now. Zach walked deathly quiet.

Zach ceased walking and so did I. We were standing in front of a small clearing surrounded by enormous black trees.

"Where are we?" I whispered.

He gripped my wrist without looking at me.

"Close" was all he said.

It all went in a blur. In the blink of an eye we were in the middle of the clearing now surrounded by rather people.

Their heads hung low, their bodies were distorted. Frightened, I pulled away from Zach and staggered backwards.

My head swirled. All my limbs gave up. I collapsed into strong arms.

I couldn't process what happened next. In a moment I was against his chest the next he bit on my neck and I succumbed to darkness.

Ash's PoV

Shit.

I ran through the woods calling out her name. Nowhere. Ellie's nowhere to be seen.

She was out of my sight only for a couple of hours and now she's gone.

Oh shit.

The thought hit me like a flash.

Witch.

I had known they were living with a witch and stupidly, I had left Ellie alone with her.

Spreading my wings wide, I flew.

Ellie's PoV

I opened my eyes to completely silence. My vision was blurred. I tried pulling my wrist.

Oh great.

I'm shackled. I tried to sit up. Cool. Some lunatic has chained me up. Wait where's Zach? Is he dead? Did those things hurt him?

Questions roamed in my head. Tears started to burn at the back of my throat. I called his name.

"I'm here " I heard him say, his voice sounded afar.

Relief washed over me when I heard his name.

"Are you chained too?" I called.

No reply.

"Zach" I called louder this time.

"Shush shush shush" a finger slid across my lips.

I jerked.

Suddenly, all around me candles came to life. I was chained to an altar which stood in th middle of a space surrounded by stoned walls with dark tunnels, Lara stood over me with a smile.

"Oh dear don't worry so much you'll join your friends soon" She gave another one of those smiles.

My heart slammed against ny chest. Did she murder my friends? We were taking shelter at the culprits home?

"Did you murder my friends?" I hitched.

"Oh yes baby" this time she rolled her eyes.

But Zach had said John had done all that. Perhaps they're working together.

"So you and that dick head John plotted it all together" I spat.

At that she squeezed my cheeks then broke into a laugh.

"Did you really fall for that" she blurted.

I heard a male laughter. He kept his pace slow and walked towards the altar.

Ignoring me he walked to her and pulled her into an embrace.
