Ellie's PoV
Thud.
Thud.
I opened my eyes. Something was under my bed. I straightened up glancing around. I rubbed my eyes. Something was off.
I left a small lamp on every night before sleeping. The lamp was off, the room though was unnaturally lit for 2 am.
The small window on the wall opposite to the door was open. Strange. I never leave that window open.
Thud.
Oh shit. A stupid cat has found its was inside, I thought.
I pushed my blanket and got out of the bed.
I stood up and said aloud "you'll have to pay for ruining my sleep."
I kneeled down and lifted the bed sheets. Nothing. It was dark and empty.
The temperature in the room started to drop to an unnatural coldness. I got up and into the bed again.
Thud.
The sound came again, louder this time.
I got up again. This time I was more in dread than enraged.
Then it clicked. Like a bulb being illuminated.
Shit.
How the hell did I reach my bedroom? I was supposed to be sleeping in a small cottage in a town surrounded by haunted woods.
I started sweating and shivering at the same time.
Thud.
The sound was even louder this time.
Horror washed over me. The room was freezing cold now.
I lowered myself and lifted the sheets. All I could see was darkness.
I glared into the darkness. Nothing. I stood up.
Dread washed over my body. An amorphous shape lay supine on my body. I screamed.
My eyes bolted open, I sat upright, sweating and breathing hard. The nightmare had ended but I was still scared. My body was shivering. The room was cold. I was thirsty. My throat felt painfully dry. I got up to find something to drink.
Glancing around I realized Zach wasn't on his bed and neither was Claire.
A wave of panic washed over me. The temperature of the room started to drop.
"Claire" I called out.
No reply.
I paced forward. The room suddenly seemed brighter. The source of the light was somewhere behind me. I turned and froze.
A lantern was hanging in the air. It's fire was blazing fiercely. The place stench of something. Something really bad.
Death.
I breathed heavily. My head was swirling.
Someone giggled. The sound was so familiar that it made me jump.
"Bella" I whispered. My heart rising and falling rapidly.
I heard a buzzing sound. It kept increasing and increasing until it became so loud that my ear drums couldn't bear it anymore. It felt like it was coming from every direction yet felt like it was only there in my head.
I blocked my ears wih my palms. Tears escaped my eyes and streamed down my face. All air escaped my lungs, I was suffocating.
The lantern collapsed against the floor. The buzzing stopped just like it had started. I was breathing heavily now. Building courage I got up and walked to where the lantern lay. I crouched down to see the fire was still ablaze.
My eyes were affixed on the lantern. When I glanced up I saw a figure crouched right in front of me. It's eyes were white. It's face was twisted and black.
I screamed with as much force as I could. I was blown into air by an unseen force and collapsed against hard ground. I winced in pain. I heard my name being called.
The room was beginning to get darker. My vision was swirling. It took a moment for me to realize three people were standing over me.
I blinked.
My head stopped whirling. And my vision began clearing.
Zach, Lara amd Claire were standing and looking at me with concerned looks on their faces while I lay supine against the cold floor.
I wasn't thinking about him but when I spoke it was his name.
"Ash.." I murmured and slipped into nothingness.
