What Rob never realized is how hard focusing on work is, when work is Jesse. He's everywhere: next to him, in front of him, behind him, even above him. Everywhere he looks, he appears. Everywhere Rob goes, the smell of Marlboro Golds and bitter aftershave follows.

He knew that GroenLinks and D66 were close, and that that ultimately would lead to team meetings, coalition talks and chats at the cafeteria, but he didn't prepare for the amount of times him and Jesse would be locked into the same space. He couldn't escape it, and he really tried.

Always choosing a seat as far away from Jesse as possible, trying to keep his exes fixed on his own desk during debates, learning his schedule so he wouldn't bump into him at the cafeteria. Every move is calculated and figured out- only to create forced distance.

But why? Is it because he feels guilty? Is it because even he can't resists that magnetic pull, and is afraid to let loose, collide? There is no rational reasoning as to why Rob would suddenly try to run from him, other than...

No. He isn't attracted to him. He would never possibly show any interest in him. He has a boyfriend, goddammit.

But the amount of times his eyes landed on Jesses soft lips, undeniable. The smell of bitter aftershave so intoxicating and addicting, he needs a dose of it every day. If he doesn't, he goes insane, always on the edge and ready to fight. He doesn't even smoke, but might've gotten a nicotine addiction just from being so close to Jesse.

Or maybe it's not about the nicotine after all. No, he could smell like everything, anything. Honey, lavender, pistachio, it wouldn't matter. It's Jesse that lures him in, not the nicotine.

Every day, this fight for attention continues, and every day he looses. If he could just brush his shoulder again, smirk in inappropriate moments, react. Show Rob he's not unimportant, that he matters, that he recognizes his existence. That would be enough, but only radio silence. The more he ignores him, the more the want grows. Rob is desperate for the tiniest bit of affection, now that it doesn't get catered to him anymore.

That is why staying with Sjoerd feels so easy: he is his daily dose of recognition. Sjoerd would never ignore him, he jumps at every bone he can get. But Jesse's not like that.

It makes Rob all tingly, hot and bothered. There's this new sensation he hasn't felt in a long time, this excitement. Each rejection only fueles his need.

Ever since that small interaction at the smoking spot, nothing but silence. Jesse too has been avoiding talking to Rob. Talking, socializing for that matter, isn't his strongest suit anyways, so it's easier to just keep a safe distance. In denial with how beautiful Rob looks from the side, and how fascinating his posture looks when he comes up to the interruption mic. Luckily, he's the master of ignoring, no one could ever read his thoughts off of his face.

But the debate has been going for two hours already, and ignoring each other becomes harder with each minute. When Jesse loosens his tie and sighs loudly in his chair, letting his body lazingly fall into the blue plush: so distracting. How couldn't Rob watch him, how couldn't he admire the bounce of the perfectly styled curls?

And when Rob slowly strips his blazer off him, stretches in a way that the buttons on his shirt could jump open any second now: how couldn't Jesse stare? How couldn't he let his eyes wander over the mans chest?

"Thank you Mister Azarkan. And with that the topic of repercussions for Hungary are closed. The next point on todays list are the debates regarding shipment taxes for Chinese products. Mister Klaver, please come up"

Klaver.

What a beautiful name, how the letters flow so graciously into each other, and roll off the lips so mindlessly. It catches Robs attention immediately, and as always the urge to watch the walking man is so strong, he couldn't suppress it even if he wanted to.
