The stone under his feet make a funny noise, the crunchy leaves on the ground tickle his brain.
It's like the grey of the sky has transformed into bright sunlight, and the world around him has started to laugh and sing. Each individual passing his way is so much more than a stranger, he can feel their positive energy mixing with his.
His path is flourishing, the Hague incredibly beautiful, the sky enlightened with gods grace.
Rob takes a deep breath to feed his soul with his surroundings. Today is a good day.
Glass doors sliding inside and out as politicians roam the building. As always, Rob greets the military police and journalists camping outside the building. They patiently nod back, knowing well they're gonna have another chance at talking to him later.
"You look well."
The voice of a man with reddish hair and blue eyes stops him from opening the door to his office.
"I am."
Rob gives Romke an unexpected hug. His positive energy sets the mood.
"That Congress must've been one hell of an experience then."
The mysterious smile on his face doesn't go unnoticed. Rob chuckles at the words.
"Something like that, yeah. It really was fun, you missed out! But there were problems with the hotel room. Please, next time call them beforehand to say that you'd like to change something about your reservation."
"I'm sorry, I didn't think of that. What went wrong?"
He doesn't seem too surprised at the message.
"Basically, they didn't want to give me a room so I ended up sharing the room with someone else. It's okay though."
Another hug.
"Wow you really are in a good mood today! I'm glad. I haven't seen you so happy in weeks."
Robs face flushes in a pinkish color, remembering the reason for his latest positivity.
"It's a beautiful life, I'm thankful for it."
He gives Romke one last nudge at the shoulder before locking the door to his office and sliding down the wood behind his back.
Just like he did the evening before, after he successfully kissed Jesse.
Again, his fingers brush over the lips, trying to decipher if what happened is reality or only a trick of his imagination. As he feels the carpet under his legs, and the hard wood against his back, his lips remember the sensation, his lungs shrivel from the memory of the smoke.
It's exhilarating.
Rob hears the people outside in the corridor, and the people down there outside the window. Usually, it stresses him out, but not today. Today nothing could ruin his happiness.
Except for their chat. Jesse still hasn't answered the message, he hasn't liked it, he didn't even say 'thanks, I also very much enjoyed the evening'. Nothing, as usual.
He stares at the screen for a while, hoping that the blank space will turn into the typing symbol soon, but the spot remains white. It bothers him, how he could have the audacity to leave Rob on read after the intimacy they shared.
But as always, there's light at the end of the tunnel. He checks the app to see that Rob and Jesse are scheduled for the same debate. He smiles at the icons that reveal their names, knowing well how close they'd be sitting soon.
The afternoon passes painfully slow, every hour he checks to see when the debate would start, but the right time hasn't occurred yet. He's contemplated wether to just go to Jesses office or not, but it feels forced, and doesn't come as natural to him as he'd like their first encounter to be.
