Chapter 19: Augustus' Apology - Year 4

Everything felt... distant.

You couldn't seem to remember what happened during the Triwizard Tournament. There was only a sour taste in your mouth as you tried to think back a few hours. Even what you ate for breakfast escaped from your mind. It's not like you to be so forgetful.

It's been so long since... Since what exactly? You felt like you were missing something. Or someone. Or some people. There seemed to be a giant, empty hole in your heart that could only be filled with something that was greater than love.

What could it possibly be?

"Stop! Stop it!"

Suddenly, when you were pulled back to your senses, you realized that you were being held tightly. The embrace was warm yet distant, again, you couldn't recognize who was holding you. Warm hugs. Trembling. A green uniform. Silver grey eyes filled with tears.

Someone's head was buried against your collarbone, they were breathing quite heavily, you could feel your skin vibrating. It couldn't be Draco Malfoy, he's not the type to break down without a serious reason why. Who else could it be? You couldn't think of a name. Nor recognize his shaky voice.

"I changed my mind! I take it back!" A boy was clinging onto your arm, his fingers digging into your skin to the point it was starting to hurt. It sounded like he was the one in great pain. "I don't want her to forget! Please, don't make her forget everything!"

"Don't be stubborn," From the sound of that dead, dragging voice; it was Professor Snape most likely scolding the boy. From the corner of your eye, you could see him holding an unfamiliar-looking vile. "This was your plan in the first place. Learn to take responsibility for your actions."

"You saw how badly she reacted to the potion! Her mind was rejecting it!" Once again, your arm was being shaken roughly by the unknown boy. "You're hurting her and I want you to stop! The potion isn't helping at all!"

Snape was growing more frustrated by the second, clearly disliking the fact that this pointless conversation was wasting precious time, "This Forgetfulness Potion is the only way to return miss [L/N]'s memories back to normal. We have to do it in order to save her life and yours...!"

"You said she may never remember anything ever again!"

Snape couldn't help but grumble in annoyance, "That's if she gets hit with one more Obliviate charm. Then her mind would then react in unpredictable ways that might be permanent."

"It's too risky!" The boy cried out, as distressed and helpless as a child.

"This will give her temporary relief," Snape explained, walking closer to the table you were laying on. "This potion will help keep your mother alive until there is a way to undo the extra Obliviate charm on her. If only you would trust me-"

Your body was being pulled closer to another's as if you were an object of tug of war, the student continued to hold you protectively, "I'm begging you, Professor Snape, please stop! I don't want my mum to be an amnesiac for the rest of her life! She's been through too much pain! I told you that's enough!"

The man was fuming from the lack of cooperation, his explanation was sounding more bitter than the last, "It's necessary, she only needs a droplet. A small drop. That's all."

"No, she's had enough!"

"If you will only let me-"

"I said: no!"
