Chapter 12: Charming Cedric - Year 4

It was a dark and fairly chilly night. Nothing pleased you more than being wrapped up in your blue and gold scarf while huddling close to Draco Malfoy. Both of you were wearing cozy jackets and fingerless gloves, the boy was trying his best not to look bothered by the weather.

You waved a little Hufflepuff and Gryffindor flag in the air while the rest of the students cheered loudly. Everyone else was too focused on the area ahead of the bleachers, you and Draco were kind of in your own little world. There was a small smile on your face when the blond scooted closer to you.

"I heard that Pansy was harassing you after the Yule Ball." Draco had a scowl on his face when he said the girl's name. "What a psychopath...!"

Well, the peaceful atmosphere was good while it lasted. Your smile wavered the slightest as you leaned back to respond, "It was nothing, she just asked about your whereabouts."

He raised an eyebrow, "Oh really? What did you tell her?"

That night, Pansy was crying and you felt like you were the reason for that. But, you just couldn't tell her that you and Draco went into a magical mirror and time travelled 30 years into the future which you ended up forgetting half the events that went on. You told her that you and Draco were elsewhere other than the ball.

You knew that Draco broke her heart and it was understandable that she started to avoid both of you. Whenever you were walking down the hallway, she would hide behind other people. Whenever she saw Draco, she would pretend not to notice him.

Then, when she sees you and Draco walking together, she looked sick to her stomach and would cover her face from others seeing her upcoming tears. You felt so bad for her.

Draco was waiting for you to answer.

"I told Pansy that you were with me."

"Wow, so bold of you." He teased. "See, telling people we're together isn't that hard."

You pouted, "That's not the point... She was really upset that you stood her up."

"Sometimes you need to understand my feelings, I had no interest in going to the dance with Pansy in the first place. If it were the other way around, let's say that Durmstrang guy asked you out, I would be jumping for joy if you stood him up for me. Just the thought of you being with someone else makes me mad as hell." Draco crossed his arms and stared at you. "Now do you understand, miss [L/N]?"

This time you let out a chuckle when he tried to close in on you, "Back up, mister Malfoy, people will get the wrong idea."

"I would like it if people got the wrong idea," Draco flashed his pearly white teeth as he smirked. Then he gasped sharply and shut his eyes quickly when a chilly breeze swept through the bleachers. "Phwaa...!"

"Are you cold? Wanna share my scarf?"

"No, you told me not to get close to you!" He replied childishly, turning away with a frown. "I wouldn't want to ruin your reputation, miss [L/N]!"

"C'mon, stop acting like that." You tugged on his sleeve, knowing he only did this as a way to get attention from you. "Draco, you might catch a cold."

"Well, isn't this rare! You actually care about me-? Ah... Achoo!" In the middle of his sarcastic remark, Draco sneezed into his arm and raised his head groggily. You leaned closer to him and he shouldered you off, "Stop it...! I'm fine...!"

"I can't kiss you if you get sick..."

The tips of his ears turned red, "I-I don't care! Plus, you have the lamest pick-up lines!"

You shook your head playfully as your attention was drawn to the front. There was a bright flash of light and the band started to play a fanfare.

Then the crowd erupted in loud joyous cheer. Harry and Cedric landed on the ground, signifying a Hogwarts victory. You jumped happily and clapped your hands in congratulations. Draco simply rolled his eyes at your excitement.

People were hugging each other, Dumbledore was standing up from his seat and applauding. Hell, even Snape had a mildly impressed expression on his face. Who would have thought Harry Potter, an underage wizard, would be duo victors with Cedric in the Triwizard Tournament. Surely, this will go down in the history books.

Just then, Fleur Delacour shrieked in pure terror when she walked closer to the two students. Viktor Krum was even disturbed enough to back away from them.

The once charming Cedric Diggory was now lying dead in Harry's arms. As people's cheers diminished to horrified whispers, Harry's cries of despair grew louder and louder.

On the other side of the bleachers, you saw Luna's carefree attitude drop and she stopped waving her flags. Beside her, Cho got up sluggishly. She started to tear up at the sight. The horrible sight of her love laying dead on the ground like a discarded ragdoll. She looked like she was about to faint.

"He's back!" Harry coughed out in between sobs. "He's back! Voldemort is back!"

A terrifying chill was sent down your spine when he shouted that name. You haven't heard that name since that one lesson during your History of Magic class. The thought of He Who Must Not be Named lurking around Hogwarts was enough to make you fear for your life.

"Everyone, stay in your seats!" Dumbledore ordered as he continued to attempt to pull Harry off Cedric's dead body. Snape suddenly walked off to the dark side of the bleachers. Professor Moody even stood afar and twitched anxiously.

The students stirred fearfully and it was parted when a man pushed himself through the crowd. He stubbled frantically to the ground, shaking Cedric's arm as if he were only in a deep slumber, "That's my boy! My boy!"

Never in your life have you seen a grown man cry, let alone a father. Every parent's worst nightmare; their child being dead. You couldn't imagine how he felt, you didn't even want to think about it. It must be unbearable, having your son lying dead on the ground while you can do nothing to help them.

You couldn't bear the thought of burying your own child.

"Let's go, let's go!" Draco whispered feverishly, tugging your arm a few times to pull you up to your feet.

Your lips trembled as you tried your best to take in what happened. Cedric is dead... You just couldn't understand. You couldn't comprehend. This was the first time you have seen something like this. A corpse. A dead body. It was surreal.

He was alive a few hours ago. You saw him talking. Laughing. Smiling. Now, he's dead. What did Harry mean when he said that Voldemort was here? You had too many questions.

Your legs were shaking as you struggled to step out of the seats, hand entwined tightly with Draco's. You couldn't stop staring at Mister Diggory latching onto his dead son. With your eyes glued on Cedric, Draco dragged you away from the panicking crowd and out of the stadium.

A hooded figure dressed in all black watched from a distance, standing far up the bleachers where no one else was. He knew this was going to happen but it was still shocking to see everything unfold right before his eyes. Still, he remained unfazed and only let out a solemn sigh.

"Mister Augustus Malfoy," A stoic voice called for the boy's attention from behind him. "This better not be a waste of my precious time. As you see, we are having... A problem here."

There were cries and screams as the crowd began to escape out of fear from the mention of the Dark Lord. Through the chaos, both people remained unnaturally calm.

Taking off the black hood, Augustus turned around to face the man, "It's really important this time, I swear, Professor Snape."
