Chapter 22: Sunny Sons - Year 5
Things couldn't possibly get worse. Right...?
It was this kind of wishful thinking that brought Augustus and his brother 29 years into the past. At the moment, both boys found themselves stuck in 1995 with no way out other than their time travelling mirror which was confiscated by Hogwarts's most annoying professor yet.
Augustus and Scorpius emerged from their hiding spot under the tables and rose to their feet. Both of them took in their surroundings and sighed simultaneously at the realization of their current problem. The eldest grumbled under his breath when he noticed the missing time travelling mirror, making matters much worse. Scorpius decided that both of them needed to get help. The problem was; who were they going to ask?
"August," The tone of Scorpius' voice teetered between annoyance and anger. "What did you say would happen this year?"
"Uh..." The other student ruffled his hair as he tried his best to recall his memory. "Father became a prefect and joined Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad... Mum probably joined another potions club or something... If I remember correctly, we have to be careful. Death Eaters were pretty active this year."
Scorpius had a sour expression twist his face, "Mother and father are totally going to ground us when they find out... and I can't imagine meeting them as students, it's too weird...! How are we going to get out of this mess? We can't just wait it out and waste our time."
"Alright, I have a plan." Augustus rested his fist against his hand. "We should stick together, I don't think it would be a good idea to split up. After all, we're basically contaminating the whole timeline just standing here. Even you sleeping on that chair just altered the entire timeline - whoever sits there will probably fail their classes..."
"Ugh, you're so dramatic." Scorpius goaded and returned to the subject. "You said that Death Eaters were active this year, right? It's probably because we lost the mirror. Now that Umbridge has it, who knows if Death Eaters will get their hands on it before we do. We have to go find it...!"
"Okay, you do have a point there but come on!" Augustus gestured his arms around the classroom. "Do you even have a clue where the mirror might be?! We don't know which room, which floor, or which tower it could be hiding in! It sucks that I can't use my Time-Turner...!"
"We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you!" Scorpius had to shake some sense into his brother from his childish tantrum which almost resulted in Augustus toppling over his own shoes. Both boys swatted hands at each other before finally calling it quits, deeming that fighting was not helping their situation.
"I think we should go ask mum and father for help..."
"What are we going to do if they find out we're their kids?"
"Give me a break..." Augustus went back to hitting his forehead with the palm of his hand as if doing such a thing was going to stimulate his brain to think of some sort of genius idea- "I got it!"
The student laughed the sort of laugh of a mad professor to which his brother only gave him an emotionless stare. There was an awkward chill in the Divination classroom, yet the uneasy tension in the room didn't stop Augustus from flashing a cheeky grin.
"How about one of us goes with mum and the other goes with father?! Then it would seem like we're their own child!"
"Are you stupid? They know we're brothers." Scorpius countered.
Augustus reached into his robe pocket and retrieved a small vile, a mischievous smile running along his face, "Forgetfulness potion."
"How long has that been in your pocket?"
