Chapter 21: Another Accident - Year 5

This was the first time you sat with Draco on the Hogwarts Express. Usually, he would be sitting with his goon of friends, joking and collectively dreading another new school term - but he was calm. Almost solemn.

You as well. Usually, you would be sitting with Cho and Luna. For now, they were sitting in their own booth possibly in another train car. You missed your two precious friends and how the three of you would just sit in silence. On the other hand, you couldn't help but enjoy your time beside Draco. Shamelessly.

It was just the two of you in your own worlds, the occasional rumbling of the train made your shoulders bump together. You tried to focus on the novel you were reading but Draco's presence made it harder for you to keep your eyes on the book.

Like every other time you stared at him, you never failed to be mesmerized by how handsome he was. As he gazed out the window, you admired his combed hair, the perfect arch of his nose, and his soft lips. His eyes followed the clouds above, you watched him silently.

"Take a picture," Draco spoke up.

"Huh...?"

"You're staring, take a picture." He replied swiftly.

All at once, your face warmed up at the suggestion. You couldn't help but laugh in disbelief before continuing to reread the same portion of your book over and over. With his chin resting on his hand, Draco adjusted his posture to hide his rising grin.

The train ride to Hogwarts has always been magical. For some reason, it felt more lively - like a sunny day in August. Refreshing, new, bright and brimming with excitement. You felt like this was going to be your year, your year to shine as a top student. Maybe even topping Hermione Granger's scores.

Thinking about Professor Snape's Potions class was getting you hyped up about the upcoming school term. You never grew tired of learning about Potions, you almost wished you could take that class and that class only. But alas, you knew it wasn't going to be possible.

Draco's hand was placed on top of your leg and he continued to casually stare out the window. You can just about feel the tips of your ears being set ablaze, you tried not to feel embarrassed - almost ignoring his sneaky advances. Having him touch you so mindlessly still shook you to the core. It was going to take you a while to get used to this.

Once the Hogwarts Express arrived at its destination, you were finally ready to start off the new school year.

After walking past Harry Potter and restaining Draco from causing a bigger scene than he already was, he and you sat quietly in the moving carriage. The sky was dark and there was an uncomfortable chill hanging in the air. Only the unsatisfying warmth from the lanterns blanketed your earnest expression.

You couldn't seem to find anything to talk about, the words failed to come out of your mouth. It felt like there were many things on your mind that were bound to start a conversation, but you decided against breaking the silence. As much as you cherished being alone with Draco, sometimes he can be a little explosive.

From time to time, you thought about your future. You wondered if Draco was going to be a part of your life that far ahead. There was always an exciting fantasy of living that fairy-tale life, like a princess running off with their one true love. As childish as it was. As unlikely as it was. Even a mature person would want that kind of life too...

It wasn't much of a surprise that you were going to start your fifth year with another new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. According to the Ministry of Magic, they sent in one of their members as a replacement. You were fine with that, surely she'll just come and go like the others.
