Zelda could hardly remember the last time she had been able to take a relaxing bath. She was always busy, constantly working, so it had been way too long since she had a bath with all the trimmings.
It was a rare occasion to have some quiet time so she wanted to make it worth it. She had barely used her hot tub sized bath before, but she didn't hesitate to fill it deep with steaming hot water. She practically emptied a whole bottle of bubble bath into the flowing water which created a thick layer of bubbles atop the water. A pink bath bomb came next, fizzing rapidly and turning the water a soft rose colour. Oils and bath salts were the last things to come before Zelda finally got in.
For the first time that week, Zelda sighed delightfully instead of irritation as her whole body relaxed in the hot water. It was like melting, all tension was gone and instead, Zelda felt like she was laying on a cloud. Resting her head on the side of the tub, she closed her eyes and stretched her limbs under the water, forgetting everything stressful that had happened that week.
As Zelda rarely got time to sit still without interruption, she wanted to savour this time for as long as she could. Time with her thoughts was always much appreciated.
Zelda wondered what her life might have been like if she hadn't gone into politics. As much as she loved making Hyrule a better place, she knew that being President meant she missed out on a lot of things, especially since she had been the youngest President of Hyrule to ever be elected.
She had only been elected when she was twenty so being given such a lot of responsibility like that meant she missed out on most things that young adults did.
Zelda didn't exactly have friends because there wasn't exactly much time for a social life. Or love life for that matter.
Most people her age had already had their fair share of partners. Zelda had always pushed aside romance during her teens; she was too focused on her studies for any distractions. So she had told herself there would be time for romance once she achieved her goal but in doing so, all she did was alienate herself from it. She was now in her mid twenties and had never had the opportunity to let herself love.
She had tried of course. Every now and again, she would meet someone who took her fancy but trying to have a relationship whilst juggling a country's needs and the press was virtually impossible. She didn't have the time for dating, and even if she did, practically everywhere she went, there were always cameras in her face so there would be no chance of having a private life.
Relationships were never her forte. The last person whom Zelda had fancied didn't like the publicity that came with being close to the President. The person in question was an embassador from Gerudo City. She had beautiful red hair, a shapely figure and was very well versed in different academic subjects which were very impressive. Zelda had only tried to date twice before but since they both fell through, she had promised herself that if she tried a third time and her job got in the way again, she would quit trying. So when her 'relationship' with the embassador came to a rocky close, she just had to admit that love was never on the cards for her.
The sad thing was that she knew her Head of Security, Link, had a somewhat crush on her. Link was too respectful of her to ever admit it, but Zelda had been around him long enough to know that his protectiveness over her was more than just because it was his duty.
She respected Link and Link respected her. It was a dynamic that had lasted years. Zelda and Link were always very professional though. Even though Link clearly had a thing for her, he would never outright say it because he knew Zelda was technically his boss and their working relationship was functional enough.
Being by her side all these years, Link had seen her go through everything for Hyrule. She never got distracted and was always focused. He knew that the best thing to do for her would be to just let her be and not being up his feelings. He was content to sit in silence if it meant she wasn't fazed.
Zelda didn't want to disturb their friendship and jeopardise their working relationship by throwing something new into the mix. Zelda had a job to do and so did Link.

As he was Zelda's personal bodyguard, Link had been given a room at the Palace which was conveniently right next to President Zelda's suite. As she had asked not to be disturbed for the evening, Link had been dismissed for the night.
He sat atop his bed with a book in his hand though he wasn't really paying attention to what he was reading.
These past few months of unrest from the terrorist Ganon, were always on his mind, just as much as it was constantly on Zelda's mind. He had known her for so many years and he knew that Hyrule was definitely better off with her in charge. She had kept the peace for so long and practically every citizen had benefited from her Presidency. He couldn't even think of a time without her in charge.
Not only was her Presidency at stake, this Ganon didn't seem like the type of guy to just let her go. He was a radical, so it was likely he would see Zelda dead before he even tried to take Hyrule.
He knew she hated being surrounded by guards but Link had ordered additional security throughout the Palace. It was his job to keep her safe no matter about feelings.
Link could never admit that he fancied the President of Hyrule. Not only was she in a league all by herself, he knew she didn't like distractions from her work, so Link just kept quiet and didn't mention anything which could be considered unprofessional.
