After finishing his drink, Link apologised but insisted he should at least check up on the security camera. Zelda was enjoying his company but didn't argue as she knew he was still worried.

The captains acted as if nothing had happened when Link approached them. They wouldn't presume anything.

"Anything of note?" Link inquired as he looked at the cameras.

"No, boss, just the usual. We did a radio check about five minutes ago, everything seems to be in order." Alfie, one of the captains and Link's friend, replied.

"Right boys," Link sighed as he sat himself down in front of the cameras, "If everything's as it should be, I suggest you get a few hours sleep. I'll take the first watch and wake you up when you're needed."

All the other captains left, except for Alfie who shuffled his chair closer to Link's.

"So?" He asked expectantly, "What did she want?"

"I can't think how that's any concern of yours," Link scoffed, "For all you know, the President may have just wanted to discuss the security arrangements for tonight."

"Yes because official meetings always take place on the sofa with drinks, just the two of you and no one there to witness it," Alfie teased, chuckling away at the slight blush that was now on Link's cheeks.

"It's not like that and you know it," Link retorted, looking away from the captain to stare at the security camera screens again as a distraction, "Zelda and I are strictly professional."

"The fact you're on first name basis with the President says otherwise," Alfie chuckled again, loving how uncomfortable Link looked.

"Look, she's just worried and needs a friend right about now, ok? We've known each other for years and this is the only time I've seen her so worried. I don't blame her for wanting some companionship." Link replied curtly, obviously done with the conversation, "Now I suggest you get some sleep otherwise it's going to be a long night."

"Whatever you say, boss," Alfie sighed in defeat as he gave Link a mock salute before heading off.

Besides Zelda, Alfie was the closest thing Link had to a friend mostly because Alfie was second in command and so was usually always present at meetings with him and was always following in his footsteps. But the downside to having him around all the time was that the second Alfie figured out that Link was hopelessly in love with the President, he would not stop teasing him about it like they were nothing more than schoolboys that had their first crush.

It was true, Link did love Zelda but he would never act upon it out of respect for her because he knew that whenever she tried to have a relationship in her line of work, she always ended up miserable. He knew it was better to let her get on with her duty and not try to distract her from it, especially since the arrival of Ganon.

Trying not to dwell on things all through the night, Link stared intently at the camera screens. There were cameras posted everywhere throughout the Palace and guards posted at regular intervals. If something moved, he would know about it.

In fact, nothing was moving. On all screens, everything was still, unnaturally still. Even the guards seemed like statues with not even a small sway to them or perhaps a readjustment of their helmets. Everything was too still.

"Alpha 1, radio check," Link spoke calmly into his own radio, expecting the soldier he was watching on the screen to pick their up and answer him.

Instead the screen remained the same. No movement at all.

"Alpha 2, radio check," Link ordered a little more panicked now as he moved onto the next soldier who also didn't reply or even move, "Alpha 3? Alpha 4? Someone!"

No movement. The screens weren't just still, they were frozen with the illusion that they were still rolling. Now panicked, Link quickly pulled up the keyboard which linked all the screens together and began going through a few of the system failsafes until the screens blimped for a second before coming back on, now showing completely different to what had been there earlier.

All the soldiers posted outside the building at and all the entrances, were now lying limp on the floor. At first, Link assumed they had been gassed but Link's worst fear was proven true when he saw dark puddles of what looked like blood underneath some of the bodies. Their throats had probably been slit as he had heard no sign of trouble or struggle.

Just as the panic was settling in, figures all in black invaded one of the screens, a camera which was only a corridor away from Zelda's suite. They looked like shadows in the darkness and though they had firearms strapped to their hips, they had edged weapons in their hand. These guys were clearly not here for a violent rampage, they were here for a cunning and quiet assassination.

They were obviously not common thugs. They had hacked the security cameras, they had jammed the radio, they had obviously studded the Palace down to each detail, they knew how to kill quietly and killed trained guards.

Acting quickly, took out the brief case from under the table which he had prepared in case of emergency and this was obvious an emergency.

"Guards!" He yelled out in Zelda's suite, summoning all the soldiers that were still alive and oblivious to the assassins, "We're under attack!"

All the soldiers held up their guns, poised and ready for an attack.

"They're going to try and break down these doors," Link pointed to the main entrance to the Presidential suite where he had seen the assassins advance on, "You need to hold your ground and cover us as I get the President to safety. She is your first priority, you got that? Those assassins out there want to uproot Hyrule via the murder of President Zelda. You cannot allow this to happen!"

With that, Link left the soldiers to set up a plan of action. He would have joined then but he had his mind on Zelda and getting her away from danger.

Not bothering to knock, he burst into her room, making her jump up from the sofa she was sat on, the book she was reading went flying across the room. Link marched in and flopped the case down on the bed and opened it to reveal two hand guns and many extra magazines of ammo. There was also a thin bullet proof vest, a flashlight and a metal knuckle buster with a sharp blade in the middle.

Link already had one gun on his holster so he stuffed the other in his jacket pocket before he took a few magazines and shoved them into the other pocket.

"What's going on! Link what-" Zelda squeaked, trying to keep up.

"We're under attack," Link stated quickly, not wanting to waste time, "We've got to get you out of here. Put this on!"

Link held out the bulletproof vest and gestured for her to raise her arms. He quickly and swiftly helped her into it, adjusting the straps as best he could under timed pressure. He went back to case and gave her the flashlight before he tried to hand over the gun.

"Link I can't! You know I would never-" she tried to protest but Link shoved it into her hand.

"Please, Zelda. For me. If it's between you and someone else, by the Goddesses, you choose yourself, ok? I'm not loosing you tonight!" Link almost growled, so mixed with fear and concern he couldn't imagine her dead because she refused to take a gun.

Zelda had never seen him so protective. She couldn't protest him after his quick change from his polite and understanding self to his protective bodyguard self. She knew he wouldn't let her carry no weapon, he wanted her safe and the best way to do that would be to arm oneself.

Link rushed over to the window and opened it as wide as it could go. Poking his head out, he looked over the courtyard which was basically a big garden in the middle of the building. He scanned the grounds for any sign of the assassins and, at least for now, they weren't around.

They were on the second floor but they really had no choice. They had to jump.
