Chapter 7

The nanny

Meredith's POV

I watched as the rain drops raced down the cold window, I looked over at my mother as she look at the rain too.
we just sat there in silence as we always did when I came to visit, everything was just the boring normal.

"So mom how's everything?" I said breaking the long lasting silence between all the other speaking people in the room "it's stressful, I'm having to many patients! Where is my damn interns when I need them" she said in frustration as she looked around at the nursing home staff walking around doing their job, "all these nurses, always running around With their heads up their asses" she continued and her eyes  locked dead on me "why won't Richard help me mer? he is the chief of surgery for god sake, he must be able to get someone on my case" she continued looking down at the Empty paper in her lap.

"Mom?" I smiled and took her hand "your at the nursing home remember? you're not at the hospital" I continued stroking her hand softly, she looked up at me like I was an idiot "for gods sake Meredith! I don't have time for this nonsense, my patients needs me" she said pulling her hand back as she stood up, I looked at her helpless as she walked out of the visitation room.

I stood up and put my coat on which was placed at the back of the chair, "I'm sorry Meredith, she's been a bit out of it since Richard haven't been around as much as he used to" a nurse said as she gave me a little smile, "it's fine, I'm gonna try again next week" I said smiling back at her as I walked out of the room.

I walked into the pouring rain and ran to the car, I unlocked it and sat down inside, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialed Richards number.

Richard: "Hello pumpkin"

Meredith: "why haven't you visited mom in quiet some time?" I said angry

Richard signed: "well.. I- she haven't been herself mer" he started "she always mentions your dad, she keeps asking when he is coming back"

Meredith: "what?" I said with a shaky voice "she knew what he did to us why would she want him back!" I said in anger now crying

Richard: "mer - her Alzheimer is getting worse at a rapid pace, I don't know how much time we got left, she haven't spoken about Thatcher in years" he said "it's a bad sign" he continued as a nurse in the background could be heard saying they needed him for a surgery. "I have to go sweetheart, I will talk to you soon" he said before he hung up.

I threw my coat on the floor as i broke down in tears, this couldn't be happening they told us she would have many good years left.
A shadow entered the entry and I looked up - it was Zola "are you okay Meredith?" She said looking worried "yeah Zola I'm okay" I replied as I dried a tear from my eye "then why are you sitting on the floor silly" she said laughing at her own little joke, I Chuckled as I got up on my feet "yeah silly I don't know" I smiled and took off my boots.

LATER THAT DAY

"Hey Meredith, we will be heading out on our date now" Addison said walking though the kitchen trying to get her ear rings in "there are money for pizza on the counter, and have them in bed by 9 okay?" She continued and smiled at me "yes ma'am" I said and smiled back at her, "are we all set?" Derek said as he walked in "yeah I would say so" Addison said kissing him on the cheek, I looked over at Elly as her face changed to disgust "ew mom and dad stooop" she said making another face at them, I couldn't help but laugh at her comment, "good we're going, remember all I said Meredith, in bed by 9!" She said as Derek dragged her out of the door "she got it Addison" Derek chuckled as the door closed behind them.

We sat down on the couch and watched some tv, the kids always had this show they wanted to watch and today I didn't really care what show it was, my mind was elsewhere.
"Meredith I'm getting hungry" Elly said Making a fake sad face "let me order the pizza" I said as I got up "Pepperoni please!" They both shouted in sink as I went for the phone "alright alright" I laughed at them.

Pizza arrived and we all got to dig in "this is my favorite pizza ever" Elly said taking a bite and making a little dance, "you're the silliest Elly" I laughed as my phone went off.

TEXT FROM: RICHARD.
"Hey sweetie I'm so sorry about today, could we please talk about it over coffee tomorrow?"

I placed my phone on the table and let the message fade from my mind, I was having a good time with the kids, he didn't get to ruined my mood again.

Derek and Addison came home around 11pm, I had put the kids to bed at 9pm as was strictly instructed by Addison, when thought they did fight me a little on it.
"I'm exhausted" Addison let out as soon as she entered the living room "a good night?" I asked and gave her a little smile "the best, always good to get some alone time from the kids" she said smiling back "I bet" I chuckled "they are both in bed sleeping tight and I will get to the cleaning" I continued picking up the pizza box and plates from earlier "you're a darling Meredith" Addison said and hugged me - she smelled like alcohol "no worries it's my job" I said as she let go of me, "well off to bed with you" Derek said wrapping his arms around her waist he was clearly drunk too, "alright I'm going" she laughed and kissed him - he looked like he was doing it to make me jealous what an idiot.

I left them to their moment as I went into the kitchen, I turned the water on and started to do the dishes, moments later Derek walked in, "hey pretty" he said as he walked closer to me "stop Derek, what if Addison sees us?" I said annoyed "she won't she's drunk out of her mind" he laughed as he tried to kiss me "Derek stop please" I said taking a step back "what's wrong with you? Yesterday you threw yourself at me, today I'm the villain?" He said annoyed, I looked down as he spoke.

"U dont even love her Derek why go on a date with her" i said Angry as I looked up, he now looked at me with anger in his eyes "she's my damn wife Meredith okay, married couples do stuff like that!" He spat at me "not like I fucking enjoy it" he continued as his hand ran frustrated trough is hair, "just leave me alone please I can't right now" I said as a tear formed in my eye.

This is was i get from getting involved with my boss, feelings that i can't control, feelings i just want to let out but everything must be in the way of it.

"It should have been us today" he said softly as he left the kitchen.
