"Hey baby, same as usual?" She asked me. "Yes please can you make it 2." I answered. "Valentina still living there? You need to tell her she needs to start helping herself out." She gave me a almost worried look. " I know. I just don't want to hurt her, she's been through enough Jen." That all I could really tell her.
"I know baby, how's your mom?" I rolled my eyes at her words. 'my mom'? "Evelyn? Still an alcoholic." She sighed at my words I knew she felt bad. "I'm sorry." But I understand. "No need to be, been years dealing with her."
Jennifer. I actually take her to be my mom if anything. It's currently 1:30 AM, another one of my sleepless nights getting food for me and and Valentina for tomorrow, before work. Jennifer has always been here for me ever since I met her at this gas station a couple years back.
She's always giving me discounts and better food then what the gas station has to offer. After Talking to Jen and getting my food I headed back, to what I call home.
It was dark and raining so heavy outside , you could barely hear the cars in the distance or even see them. Rain was my calmness these days. The rainy nights come with its heaven-given soundtrack, washing every hue into a strong and soulful vibrancy.
I had a shift at the club in about 2 hours, and I'm pretty sure Valentina's asleep. I was only 5 minutes away from home so I got there quickly. I slipped into my stripper outfit and wore normal clothing over it. I put my heels into my backpack and headed out.
On my way back outside, I came across Evelyn once again passed out on the couch laying in her own drool. I turned off the tv and acted as if she wasn't even there, and left.
Bronx, New York. It's a beautiful place honestly, but where I live, that's a different story. It's all ran down and not cared for. There's this one place that absolutely no one knows about, besides me. An underground pond.
I had time before I went to work so headed there. I hadn't been back here in so long. Ever since, well I lost my happiness. When I entered the large rusted door, leading into an abandoned Underground Railroad, I pushed it shut behind me. I set my bag down and kicked my sneakers off to the side.
As usual it was dark and not a sound would be heard. I walked deeper into the dark hallway until I saw the pond. As soon as I stepped into the cold water, my skin turned rough with goosebumps, pointless as they are. The water surges around my skin, rising up my leg, The weight of the water is almost enough to topple me, the current enough to take me a bit deeper in the pond. All the Koi fish began surrounding me. I usually brought them food I'm surprised their still alive. From the looks of it, they were still being fed. I wonder if someone else found this place.
This place was me and Lucas's favorite place to run off to. Dad had used to take us on the train when it was working, to a lake for fishing. He never said anything but I knew it was to get away from Evelyn. He would've left her if it wasn't for me and Lucas. He knew if he left, Evelyn would've never let him see us again.
