Chapter Thirty Four
To say Tobi was furious upon finding out about what Sasuke and Miyako did would be an understatement. Perhaps the word livid would be better. But either way, Tobi was not impressed. And the worst part about it? He didn't know what to do.
Now that he had lost any leverage he had over Sasuke, Miyako, and – to an extent – Itachi, his plans were starting to slip through is fingers like grains of sand. On the bright side – if there was a bright side to this situation – Konohagakure has been destroyed – albit with Nagato sacrificing himself in the process – and he now had Nagato's eye implanted he could go after the Eight-tails himself.
No, Tobi thought, I'll send Team Taka, Miyako, and Itachi to get it. May as well use them to my advantage now that the only ones left of the Akatsuki are Kisame, Itachi, and Zetsu. Maybe Hisoka can go with them – keep an eye on them. Surely he can handle both Sasuke and Team Taka.
But can he handle Miyako and Sasuke? No. I'll send Kisame and Zetsu to watch as well. Worse case, they can subdue them. Then again, maybe I can convince Hisoka to go with Plan B – or whatever letter we're up to. Yes... that could work.
With Team Taka and Itachi busy – with Kisame and Zetsu keeping a close eye on them – me and Hisoka can do what we need to do with Miyako.
...
"Sasuke, Itachi, be careful on this mission. I don't trust Tobi at the moment," Miyako warned a few hours later.
Suigetsu, who was standing with Karin and Jūgo frowned. "You say that as if you trusted him to begin with."
Miyako let out a bitter laugh. "I never did. Probably never will after what he's forced me to do to Ainu-chan."
"Its not use we're worried about, Miyako-san," Karin muttered, eyeing her surroundings wearily as she could sense the chakra's of both Kisame and the plant-like Zetsu watching from the treeline.
"What do you mean?" Miyako questioned in confusion.
"You haven't been able to read Tobi's mind, correct?" Itachi questioned, and Miyako nodded. "That means he's hiding something. You and Sasuke got off easy with what you did to the children and their carers."
"He's planning something, and the fact he's sending all of us – except you – on this mission doesn't bode well for you," Sasuke finished.
"I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm stronger than I look."
"He got a hold of you once," Sasuke reminded bluntly.
Miyako frowned. "I was younger then... weaker. He also took me off guard. I'll be fine."
Jūgo was about to say something before his eyes fell behind Miyako, who stiffened as an arm was thrown over her shoulder.
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of her, won't I Mi-chan?" Hisoka stated having just gotten his instructions from Tobi.
Sasuke and Itachi both glared at Hisoka as Miyako pulled away, shooting him a glare and closing her hands into fists. "Don't touch me!"
Hisoka pretended to pout. "Awe, and here I thought we were friends!"
Miyako scoffed. "You lost that right when you turned your back on the village, joined Tobi, and made me and your old team think you were dead."
Hisoka's eyes turned hard, the playful look on his face disappearing. He opened his mouth to retort, but Tobi swirled onto the scene.
"Why are you all still here? Go!" Tobi snapped, making Sasuke shoot him a glare as Itachi walked up to Miyako and pulled her into a gentle kiss.
"Be careful," he whispered into her ear before turning his back on her and walking off with the rest of the group, Tobi watching the interaction in interest, and Hisoka frowning in anger.
