She gazed upon the very demon that murdered her sister, an angered fire burning inside her. Her normally friendly smile hiding her anger had disappeared the moment she saw his multicoloured eyes gaze back at her.

Right at his feet lay multiple dead bodies, all women. One shrieked for her help, only for her to be a lost cause, despite Shinobu's efforts.

He introduced himself as Douma, thought she never planned to remember his name, nor call him by it.

His sharp fans danced around him, his finger gripping their ends as they framed his carefree smile. It angered her.

"You know, everyone is scared of dying. That's why I eat them all up. Now they get to live with me forever." Douma placed his hand over his heart. "All the feelings of my worshippers, I made sure to accept and rescue."

Shinobu's face contorted to disgust. "There's no way you're sane. You're actually making me vomit here."

Before he could say anything, both he and Shinobu felt this sense of being watched. He smiled, pressing his hand over his heart. "Ah... so it's the little butterfly."

Butterfly?

"Ah, you must be confused. The little butterfly is the only one that has resisted the blood of us Upper Moons. She is the current Flame Hashira from what I remember."

The colour from Shinobu's face seemed to drain.

"What a pretty girl she was at the time. Only 4 from what I remember. I'm not sure how she survived such an attack... however, she does seem to be a bit of a nuisance at the time."

Douma noticed the angered expression Shinobu held. "Is there something bothering you? If so, I'll make sure to listen, so be sure to speak up."

Gripping onto her haori, she gritted her teeth. "You're the one who killed my sister? You don't recognize this haori?!"

He thought for a moment. "Oh! You mean the Flower Breathing girl from before? She was such a cute and sweet girl." Douma recalled the fateful night. "I missed out on eating her because of the sun, but I really wanted to eat her all up."

In a fit of anger, Shinobu outstretched her sword, the blade stabbing his left eye.

To retaliate, he used a Blood Demon Art technique, air colder than any before just missing Shinobu.

"Hm, you really are fast, huh?" Douma smiled. "But you can't kill a demon with just stabbing."

Shinobu's sword clattered in her scabbard. "Stabbing may not work, but poison might." From her words, the poison took action.

In another area, you gripped onto Giyuu's haori. "Gi-chan, on a scale of Final Selection to Kibutsuji, how affective is Shi-san's poison?"

"Her poison...? Probably a little under Lower Moon. Why?"

Why? This is way more serious than you think.

Douma coughed up blood as he tried to tranquilize the poison running through his body. "It seems like I've decomposed your poison. Sorry about that.."

Many attempts were made. Many different poisons were used. But they never worked.

"Are you having trouble breathing?" Douma asked. "That's because your lungs are dying. My Blood Demon Art sucked up your blood earlier."

She tried once more, but instead, she got cut by his sharp fans.

"You should've cut off my head instead of using poison. If you're that fast, you might have beaten me. Or maybe not, because you're too small."

She froze. Why am I so small? Why didn't I get taller? If I had just been a little taller, I might've been able to-

"When you're small, that means it's easier to break their expectations!! Right Shi-san?"

Shinobu's eyes widened. That voice... She looked up, seeing Kanae standing before her, with you hiding behind her. "Stand up. You have people to protect. Once you decide to win, you win. Win, whatever the cost. You made a promise with Kanao and I, right?"

Behind her, the wood creaked from Douma's advancing footsteps. "Sorry, it wasn't a thorough cut so you're suffering."

"You can do this. So do your best."

Shinobu staggered, getting to her feet, to Douma's surprise. "You're standing...? Wow. Are you even human?"

She charged forward, her speed surpassing Douma's predictions. Her haori tore, her body twisting and turning, and finally, her blade stabbing into his neck.

But to no avail.

He wrapped his arms around her, tears streaming down his cheeks. "So admirable! You tried so hard! I'm impressed! A weak girl doing so much!"

Douma opened his eyes. "I'm sure the little butterfly would like to see you." He looked Shinobu in the eyes as her lower body was slowly absorbed.

Seemingly miles away, where you couldn't do anything, you froze in place, both Giyuu and Tanjiro looked back at you. "Y/N...?"

You abruptly turned your head in Shinobu's direction, regretting that you couldn't do anything. That you weren't with her.

"SHI-SAN!!!"
