The fog was heavy in the air. She could barely see in front of her, but that didn't matter. What mattered was finding him, telling him what she heard, what she saw. He was the only one that could protect her now. So she ran.
Her lungs burned from lack of exercise. The road she was running on was uneven; her right foot landed in a pot hole. The hole was big enough for her to fall to the ground, twisting her ankle. She bit her lip, the taste of blood filling her mouth. She couldn't risk getting caught by them...of course they might already know.
She picked herself up, her ankle throbbing with pain. At the moment she couldn't stop, couldn't think of the pain, she had to get to him. "We know you're there..." A deep, teasing voice called out from the fog.
No...this can't be the end.
Something inside her seemed to snap, she felt her throat constrict, tears running down her face. She stood up and started running the best she could. There I can see it...she thought a pang of relief running through her body. There was a small light, a porch light that shined out in hope.
"Silas! Please help--" her words were cut off as something stung her.
No it wasn't a sting...it was a bullet...
She closed her eyes.
