Chapter Two: You're So Vintage
"Goodness Emma, you're wardrobe is so...vintage." Carter muttered while flipping through the clothes in the small closet.
Emma shrugged, as she spun around in her desk chair. "My town has like ten antique shops. I'm pretty close to some of the owners, so when they get clothes in, I get first picking."
"Oh here we go. Perfect." Carter said with a rueful smile.
She stopped spinning and looked at the dress she held. "Oh God. I haven't worn that since like eighth grade. I don't even know why I still have it."
"Well it's totally hot. Here put it on." It was an off the shoulder dress, with a blue and white stripped bow on the chest. The rest of the dress was a flowy cream colored fabric that hung down a little above her knees. "Here where these." Carter handed her, Emma's favorite creamed colored ballet flats.
"So is this Coldwater material?" Emma asked twirling around.
Carter smiled, "You'll kill them. Now I'm gonna run down and change in my room and grab my make-up. Oh just so you now I'm only four doors down from you...I have a big Running Silent poster on my door." She hung her head before quickly running out of the room.
Emma was left to herself, for the first time that day. She stood in the middle of her room, staring at the post of her brother. He sat on some steps, his long dark hair flopping over his eyes. They didn't look much alike, he looked more like her dad, while she took equally from both parents. She grabbed her phone, overwhelmed by the feelings of home sickness.
She quickly sent her mom and dad a text, telling her she already made a friend. After that she tried calling her brother, but it went straight to voice mail. His happy-go-lucky voice mail started playing, but she didn't wait for the beep. That is the very reason why she hated his fame. It seemed sometimes family was second to it.
Her thoughts were interrupted when Carter came bouncing back in, dressed in a very short, tight black dress. "Okay so I'm thinking you need to curl your hair a little bit, and wear this awesome red lipstick I have."
Emma smiled, glad for the distraction from her previous thoughts. "Sounds great, I guess."
So they spent another hour or so doing hair and make-up. When they were finally done the Girls dorm had already been locked and lights turned off. After waiting about thirty minutes they made their way down the hall to the last door on the left. Emma soon realized that the more money you had, the bigger the room you got.
The room was almost triple her room. Girls walked around, while guys climbed in through the window. Carter and Emma spotted Lilly standing with a guy, sporting a bright red, and very revealing dress. "What a slut." Carter scoffed maneuvering Emma through the growing mass.
They came up to a little group, a fair mix of boys and girls. Carter beamed, clearing her throat. "I would like all you guys to meet Emma. She's new here."
Everyone smiled at her. The girl who stood more towards the center of the group spoke up, "My names Jessica. Are you in our grade?"
"Yup." Emma replied awkwardly. After that everyone made their introductions, though Emma could only remember Jessica and a boy Alex's names. It was nice though sitting there learning all the Coldwater gossip.
One skinny red-head, who Emma believed to be Minny, started a new topic. "So have you guys seen the new student aid for history?" They all shook their head, already intrigued. "Oh my gosh, guys. He is so flippin hot. He is only like a couple years older than us, freshly graduated from Harvard."
