Chapter Seven: The First
For the next week Emma trained hard with Agent Heath, and for the next week she was constantly bombarded with questions about him. Thankfully though it was her day off, from everything and she just wanted to sleep in. Of course that would have been fine, if Carter hadn't barged into her room around noon. "WAKE UP SLEEPING BEAUTY!" She said turning on the lights.
Emma moaned covering up her head with her blanket, "No."
"Oh no, sweetie pie, today is the Halloween Party."
"Ugghhh..."
She head shuffling and then felt cold liquid being poured on her face. "Get up dude!" Emma sat straight up, face and hair damp. Carter just calmly screwed her lid back on her water bottle and walked over to Emma's dresser. "Seriously you've been sleeping forever, what have you been doing to be so tired?" Carter raised her eyebrow suggestively.
Emma's face reddened, "I'm getting tired of all the jokes, Carter."
Carter turned frowning, "Sorry, I was just messing with you."
It took a second for Emma to regain her composure. To her, she was tired because she was working to protect the girls at this school. She was trying to save Catherine and Sara Kate, but to Carter and the other girls all they could focus on was her one-on-one class period with Agent Heath. "It's fine, I'm just tired of everybody thinking Mr. Heath and I are having a sexual relationship. He is to honest to do that kind of thing."
"Right...sorry." They sat there both of them silent. "So wanna walk down and get some lunch then come back and get ready?" Emma nodded her head getting up from the bed. When they were done, they walked back talking about history notes.
"So that is why F.D.R. ended up not being such a good guy."
"That's crazy! I didn't realize there wasn't such thing as term limits back then." Carter said as they passed a group of girls. One of the girls purposefully stepped out, bumping hard into Emma's shoulder.
"Excuse you." Emma recognized the voice, belonging to the snobby brat, Lilly.
"Um, how bout excuse you, bitch." Carter said with acid in her voice.
Lilly stopped; turning slowly, tossing her long hair over her shoulder. She turned her eyes from Carter to Emma, smiling wickedly. "You know what they say about you right?" Emma knew instantly she didn't want to hear this. She started turning, but Lilly kept talking. "Are y'all gonna get married? Have a kid? It's disgusting really, a relationship with a teacher? I figured a girl here on scholarships wouldn't ruin her chance. What will you do when they find out?" Her voice rising as Emma got further away.
Carter turned, walking backwards, "Lilly remember last year's Halloween Party?"
There was, for once, silence from Lilly. "I thought you did. What if those pictures ended up on the principal's desk?" She paused, smiling. "That's what I thought. Don't start something you can't finish." Carter said finally turning and catching up with Emma. "She's just a dirty whore, who wishes she was as lucky as you are."
"Lucky as I am?"
"Yeah, you're like one of the prettiest girls in the school."
Emma rolled her eyes, "Whatever you say Carter."
"Seriously! Do you know how many guys have come to me asking if you were single? It's scary honestly." She said laughing. Emma just rolled her eyes and kept on walking.

Carter started off with facial masks, and pedicures. It had been a long time since Emma had done anything like this. It was nice; even though she rather be sleeping, it was nice to have this kind of quality time with Carter. "So what is Thanksgiving like at you're house?" Carter said taking her hair out of it's curlers.
"Well, Dad goes hunting in the morning with my Uncle Kenny, while my Aunt Rachel and Mom starting cooking. My little cousins, Charlotte and her twin brother Charlie run around chasing my dog Henley. Andy might come down if he can. He didn't last year because of tour."
Carter smiled, "That's cool." Carter slowly lost her obsession over her brother's band, until it was just a really good band and nothing more, which Emma was very grateful for. "Maybe we could go to a party." She smiled.
"Ahh...I don't know. I wanna stay in my parents good graces." If she could have been honest, she would have told Carter she's tired of going places. That she just wanted to stay home and for once, be a normal teenager, maybe even seen her old friends, but nothing that could jeopardized the mission. She couldn't do that.
"You are such a goodie-two-shoes."
There was a brief silence between the two. "Hey Carter, what do you have on Lilly that is so bad?" Emma asked setting her nail polish down. Carter looked at her and then back at her toes.
"When I first moved here, I was very quiet, observant. Up until last year, I only listened and watched people. I was pretty awful. My Mom taught me that when I was a little kid. Always watch people, find their weakness and know their secrets, and you will be successful."
"Oh..."
"Yeah pretty awful right? Well last year I had a pretty awful fight with Lilly a couple days before Halloween. Did you know we were best friends? Anyways, we were spreading rumors and non stop gossip about each other. I had said some pretty awful ones, but nothing compared to what she did. She was the reason my boyfriend of three years, broke up with me...that's another story though."
"Anyways I had a couple of freshman girls that were my...helpers. I told them to watch Lilly all night, and if she goes off anywhere, to tell me. So they did that, I was drinking pretty hard when one of them came up to me, and told me that Lilly left the room. It was weird, since it was being held in her room. So I followed her, drunkenly, out of the dorm, and to the athletic shed, by the pool. She crept in and closed the door. I waited for a moment, until I started hearing moaning...so I crawled up and got my phone out. I snapped about 40 photos of her and a teacher having sex."
"Oh my goodness...what did you do?" Emma at this point was mid-stroke on her big toe
Lilly frowned, "I sent about four copies in a envelope, with a letter telling her I'd paste the principal's office with these, if she didn't stop the rumors."
"I'm guessing that teacher doesn't teach here anymore?"
"No, he turned in his resignation and took a job at another school about four days after I sent her the pictures."
Emma stared at her new found best friend, someone who was so light and happy-go-lucky seemed incapable of committing such black mail. "Well I'm glad you reminded her she has no right to judge me." Emma said finishing her toes. Everyone's got secrets, some are worse than others, Emma thought to herself. "Even though I am not having sex or anything close to that, with Mr. Heath."
Lilly stared at Emma, surprised. "Thank you for not hating me after that. You're the only person that knows, not even the freshman knew what happened that night."
"You're welcome. Now lets finished getting ready. We've got some people to show up." Emma smiled standing up.
