Chapter Six: Day One
The next day Emma still felt a little sick, but not quite as bad as the day before. So she put on her big girl face, and got ready for the day ahead of her. From now on she would be practicing self-defense with Agent Heath and his team...what am I going to tell Carter? Emma just shook her head of the thought and took a extra long, extra hot shower, as she had woken up two hours before her normal time.
For a while she stood in front of the mirror, towel wrapped tightly around her, long hair dripping with water. She stared at herself. All she wanted to do to quit, and just go back home regardless of what her parents would have said. She knew she couldn't though, because if Catherine and Sara Kate are still alive she could find them. She could help them.
Their lives were resting in her hands.
Emma grew dizzy and had to sit down for a moment, to clear her mind of the awful images. She quickly threw on her uniform, which really needed some cleaning, but would be fine for the day. The gross weather outside was causing her hair to become curly and a little frizzy; there was something in her eyes that scared her. She had never seen so much of her father's determination in her before, as she did at that moment.
"Em? Are you awake?" She head Carter's voice on the other side of the door.
She quickly went and unlocked it, Carter was standing there sassy as ever. "Good morning Carter." Emma said smiling.
Carter raised her eyebrow, "You know Em, you can't hide your little secret from me."
Emma felt her stomach drop, as if she was at the top of roller coaster, about to fall down the rest of the tracks. "Oh yeah?" She tried playing it cool. "And please remind me, what my secret is." There you go, just be sassy back.
"You totally have a thing for Mr. Heath." Carter said pushing Emma in her room, so Carter could come in.
Nervous laughter erupted from Emma's mouth. Thank you Lord. "Oh I do? And what makes you say that?" At this point she was willing to go along with anything. So long Carter didn't know the truth.
Carter raised her eyebrow; you could tell she was proud of herself, the way she sat with back erect, and hands crossed politely at her knees. "Well to start off you bombed a test, which I don't think is physically or mentally possible for you. So you faked it, so you could spend more time with him. And now you have him believing that you need extra tutoring, so you don't have to take gym class. You lucky bitch." Carter said smiling.
"Oh? Have I?"
Carter rolled her eyes, "We saw you yesterday, stopping to flirt with him. Y'all seemed pretty comfortable with each other...you guys haven't ya know...done the nasty already, have you?"
Emma felt her face heat up, "Carter that is disgusting. And to answer your other question it's because I'm behind on a credit, and he offered to help me study so I can take the test and get the credit. I'll be back in gym class hopefully in like a month or two."
"Mhmm...I'll let that slide for now. Seriously though, if anything happened, I want to be the first to know."
"I can do you one better, you'll be the only one to know. Of course though, nothing, and I mean nothing, will happen, because we both are very professional individuals unlike our student body and other teachers."
