       Chapter Five: The Meeting

The Monday after shopping, started out like every other Monday. All except the tense History class, where Mr. Heath gave them a very long test, over the effects of the Industrial Revolution and the "Golden Age". When the class was over everyone began packing up and leaving, Mr. Heath approached Emma. "Miss. Carlos, can I have a word with you?"

Carter raised her eyebrow, and then winked as she left he room. Emma hung her head, staring at her hands. What did I do wrong? I've never failed a test..."Miss. Carlos, may I call you Emma?" Emma nodded her head, terrified to look up. "I need you to look at me Emma, you need to listen to what I am saying."

        Emma looked up.

She noticed bags under his eyes, his young face seemed to age over the weekend with evident stress. It was hard not to admire him...his beautiful eyes that seemed to dance between green and brown. His hair that was always a mess, even if you could see the lines where he had attempted at taming it with a comb. The stubble that made it's way down his chin. "You are in grave danger." He said in a low, gravely voice.

"What?" Did I hear him wrong?

"The man you talked to yesterday...ah. Let me start over. I am FBI Agent Silas Heath." He reached into his tweed jacket and produced a small black flip wallet. And inside that little wallet, rested a shiny FBI badge. "Are you alright?"

Emma didn't realize that she was swaying back and forth in her seat. Her head felt heavy, and her skin to hot for it's own good. The room began to spin. His hands reached out and held her shoulders, making her still. She batted her eyes, trying to focus, "I don't understand..."

"It is a lot to take in...it is a lot to explain." He pulled his rolley chair forward in front of her, she realized the old teacher that sat in the back, wasn't there today. It was really just them. "Emma I need you to calm down, okay? You aren't in any kind of trouble, well per say, you just happened to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time."

"Mr. Heal-Agent Heath, please tell me what is going on." She said quietly trying to calm her breathing.

He leaned back in his chair, "I know you are new to this school, but surely you remember the investigation of the two missing students here?" Emma nodded her head slowly. "Well, how do I put this? Catherine and Sara Kate...they were kidnapped, they did not run away like many believed. The FBI believed that they were kidnapped by a local...human trafficking ring."

She felt her body begin to shake, "H-human trafficking?" Wasn't that only something she heard of in other countries,  like Paris? That surely didn't happen here, not where she lived, where she was safe from thing like that. Surely this is not happening.

"Yes...and it seems...you're the next target."

That was it, Emma stood up abruptly, knocking her backpack over and pushing papers off her desk. It was a mistake. Her mind was too clouded with questions and fears, that she didn't realize she was falling till she was resting in the arms of Agent Heath. "Emma, are you okay?"

"Just help me sit down, I need time." She said in a breathy voice.

He helped her up. Emma tried not to think about how strong his arms were, and how nice it felt to rest in them. "I'm sorry this is such a shock. We didn't know that they were going to target someone from this school again...but it seems they have picked you..." his voice trailed off.
